Does anybody have experience of their periods suddenly stopping with an undercative thyroid

I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid.
The only reason this has came to light is because I started ttc near the end of August and from then on I never got my AF.

Naturally as I had been ttc I did loads of HPT and they were all a BFN.

I have had a blood test done and they showed that I do have an undercative thyorid
I have been put on thyroxine.

Has anybody else's periods stopped suddenly with an underactive thyroid and did they return once they started thyroxine.

I would like to get my cycle back in order to concieve.

Hi notjustmom

My gp is aware I am ttc although I have stopped atm as my gp doesn't think I will be able to concieve while I am like this.

Tbh I don't really have time on my side now as I have just turned 37 and I don't really know what my chances of conceiving are as my blood test also showed a high FSH.

My gp does think thats down to the thyroid
but I am not so sure there is a history of early menopause in my family.

I suppose I should not get my hopes up that I will have another DC as I do think its unlikely now.

What's HPT and BFN? I have an underactive thyroid and also that is the one sympton I don't have. I did not know it affected you trying to conceive; I only developed it two years ago after having my DS. That is a bummer as i am 40 and want to try for another baby next year (see new thread I just started about half an hour ago for advice/stories from Mums who conceived over 40) They tell me my levels are normal now but i stil feel crap. Shold start a thread about it as am getting not much clear advice from my doctor,

Hi jetson
HPT stands for home pregnancy test and BFN
stands for big fat negative.

I should imagine that you will be okay to concieve as the underactive thyroid has not stopped your periods.

I must admit this is all new to me and to be honest my mind is in a whirl about it as my periods only stopped once I started ttc.

If I have an underactive thyroid why didn,t they stop before I started ttc, things do seem to have a funny way of happening.

I must admit learning that I have an underactive thyorid explains why for the last year especially I have felt tired and weak at times with not much stamina.

If your levels are now normal and your still getting periods then you should be okay to concieve although an underactive thyroid can impact on your ability to concieve there are mumsnetters on here with an underactive thyroid who have managed to concieve okay.
