Hi, I have been left with a sentile pile/ skin tag on my anus after a fissure I had years ago. I want it go so badly it’s causing me a lot of distress. I can feel it a lot and I have problems with hygiene. It has also stopped me getting intimate with anyone. I can’t take it anymore it’s ruining me. I have visited private clinics who try to charge me £1000 I can’t afford this. Is there no way at all my my gp can remove this. I know they usually don’t because it’s cosmetic. But I can’t cope anymore I came home and sobbed because I feel like there’s no hope. Has anyone else suffered with this. Please help

Ok so £1000 is doable... extra hours at work? Take on an evening or weekend job until you save it. Sign up to an agency for work. Or the earn £10 per day thread might help.

Belleangel22 · 15/09/2021 16:52

It’s £1000 plus the consultations too and other added expenses. I’m a student, only 20 I just don’t have that kind of money I can’t cope anymore I don’t know what to do:(

FleasInMyKnees · 15/09/2021 16:55

Does your g.p know how much distress this is causing you, I would go back. If you go private can you pay in installments and have it done in an NHS hospital.

Thesearmsofmine · 15/09/2021 16:58

I would speak with your GP and be honest how it is not just a cosmetic issue for you.

PlanDeRaccordement · 15/09/2021 16:59

I agree £1000 is doable. Get a part time job and save the money. At 15hrs/wk on minimum wage you could save what you need to in less than a year.

Littleredbrickmammy · 15/09/2021 16:59

Poor you! I have had piles and skin tags around the anus removed by NHS in hospital - GP referred me. This was about 15 years ago though. It might be worthwhile for you to go back to your GP and stress how much this is affecting you mentally and physically. I would recommend getting a sitz bath to use a home as it will help you feel cleaner. They aren’t expensive and you can get them from Amazon.

Belleangel22 · 15/09/2021 17:00

I have been reluctant to visit my gp as most places I’ve researched about this procedure say they don’t do it. Which is why I went the private route but I couldn’t believe how much it was going to cost me, I have looked everywhere too. It’s stressing me out so much. I just came home today and haven’t stopped crying since it feels hopeless

The nhs will do something if it is medical not cosmetic. If you can convince them that you have pain and difficulty with hygiene, you may get lucky

FleasInMyKnees · 15/09/2021 18:01

I think you should go back to your g.p and explain how much this is distressing you wnd how you cannot keep yourself clean which is an infection risk. The g.p. may not actually do this procedure but can refer you to someone who can. Many private clinics offer payment plans if you do that instead.

Elieza · 15/09/2021 18:04

My friend got a tummy tuck in the nhs due to infections and distress so it’s not impossible to get something others may consider cosmetic done to your problem area as medical.

Did take a while to get it done though. If you can wait start thinking about how you could make money to get it done privately.

Porridgealert · 15/09/2021 18:10

I had a skin tag next to my nipple. One of the GPS at my surgery was qualified to do minor medical operations and he cut it off for me. Maybe your gp could see if you could be referred to a different practice which could do it?

BrilliantBetty · 15/09/2021 20:07

You could save this amount in a matter of months. Sign up for casual staffing jobs around your studies. One shift a week and you'll have this sorted within 6 months. You can do it.

BrilliantBetty · 15/09/2021 20:07

Maybe even 3 months ..

Mamamia7962 · 15/09/2021 20:36

You can get skin tag removal kits from Boots or Amazon. That may be worth looking into, just check that they are suitable for use in that area.

Seaoftroubles · 15/09/2021 22:36

@Belleangel22 Please go and see your G.P. and explain how distressed this is making you and the impact it's having on your mental health. Your G.P should advise you on the best course of treatment for you and might be able to refer you, you won't know if you haven't asked.

PileOfBooks · 15/09/2021 22:43

Wow. Many people could not save this much in 3 months!!!! Gosh.

Good luck OP.

GingerScallop · 16/09/2021 02:00

Please talk to your GP especially the distress it's causing you and inability to clean properly. They might refer you. In the meantime, sitz bath and wet tissue or even better, a handheld bidet or have this www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/modern-douche-shower-spray-kit-with-wall-bracket-hose-chrome?campaign=googlebase&pagetype=shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JViYgyGtx-hqSJTP8we5dJlyCsKWvsBa6eF7aNfBcSGaq0Hj598jMoaAt78EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds fitted. You can get the latter for less than £20

As for intimacy, wipe just before but really your partner might not notice but I get it's about how you feel too.

Hugs

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 16/09/2021 15:24

Your go should take action due to the negative impact on your mental health. Go to gp and if it makes you cry, cry. No point in hidi Nd that won’t help you. I have a whole bunch of grapes that I’m going to ask about cos I’m ready to get the scissors out tbh.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 16/09/2021 15:30

£1000 may be doable for some but for lots of people it's not. Certainly isn't for me.

I had a skin tag on my outer labia... I tied a piece of string around it until it dropped off. Probably not medically sound but it worked.

It is definitely worth seeing your GP, you may find they're understanding and agree to help

Mandofan · 16/09/2021 15:31

Jesus Christ, she’s a student. Not everyone can save £1000 quickly. Such a knobbish way of thinking. OP I went to my GP for the same thing. You can get it removed on the NHS. Good luck!

Flaunch · 16/09/2021 15:38

I tied a hair around a skin tag I had on my face and it shrivelled up and dropped off in a couple of days.

There’s a post on here somewhere about amateur arse surgery that might be worth hunting out.

Mindymomo · 16/09/2021 15:50

Lots of GP practices have skin clinics, which you would be referred to, free. You may have to convince GP how it is rightly interfering with your everyday life, but I expect they will know this.

UPDATE went to my GP who diagnosed it as a pile, which is exactly what I knew was gonna happen and didn’t want. I have never suffered from piles before, this is just ONE bit of skin that hangs down after I had an anal fissure years ago. I have had it for years. Left feeling so down and lost. I don’t know what to do now, do I try to find another GP? It’s so difficult with covid going on
OP posts:
Seaoftroubles · 28/09/2021 14:22

O.P. Did you tell the Dr the impact that this is having on your mental health? If it is excess skin left from the fissure can you at least request a non urgent assessment to get further information on how to remove the tag as it is causing you anxiety and distress in your everyday life.

LaBellina · 28/09/2021 14:26

Did you mention the hygiene issue?
Perhaps go back and stress this even more.
I think this would be your best bet to get a referral from the GP because it impacts your fysical health and if you hammer on the cosmetic/ psychological part they’ll just say learn to live with it.
