Wisdom tooth removal - how long until your mouth feels 'normal' again?

On Wednesday I had my upper right wisdom tooth taken out, as it was in an awkward place and causing pain. It was a big tooth with 3 roots on the bugger and took 20 minutes of pulling to come out. Shock I've got a couple of dissolvable stitches in and my mouth still feels pretty swollen and sore, despite taking painkillers regularly. I'm having to still eat softer foods and am avoiding eating on that side. If anyone has had similar done can I ask how long it took to be pain free and to be able to eat normally again?

I think mine was about a week. I had mine taken out a week and a half before Christmas and managed to eat my Christmas dinner no problem. The first few days are the worst, I would think by Monday you will feel more or less normal but still nervously biting on food.

It was quite a few days, unfortunately. I ate soft bread rolls and ice cream for a while - my appetite was way off even with pankillers because I was worried about getting food in the wound, so I didn’t want to eat anything!

About a week for me. For about 5 days I had significant pain while the molars on that side of my mouth rearranged themselves -the wisdom tooth had been crowding them together; they are nice and straight now.

Okay thank you. Fingers crossed by this time next week it'll be feeling much better then. Smile

I have had all of mine out - 3 were simple extractions which probably took a few days for the pain to go, but with twinges if I forgot and ate on that part or had a drink that was too hot or cold The more complex one with stitches took longer - they weren't dissolvable ones in my case, and I do remember that having them removed made a huge difference.
