Medised has a decongestant I think

Pickie · 03/12/2007 21:14

snuffle babe might help, like Vicks but for kids, helps loads with ours

I find the Karvol plug-in things are good. I tried oils in a bowl of warm water, but they didn't last as long as the plug-in.

nasosal - saline nasal drops for babies. Just sterile salt water basically. Drop in before feeding and they are supposed to help clear the nose (makes nose gunk more runny - sorry tmi).

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/12/2007 21:16

Oh, and put some childs olbas oil on a muslin and drape it near ds when he is feeding.

lilacclaire · 03/12/2007 21:19

Medised, pillow under mattress to raise them a bit and a bit of olbas oil on a hanky near them.

MrsBadger · 03/12/2007 21:21

another vote for snufflebabe

smear it on nork if neccesary

sparklygothkat · 03/12/2007 21:23

oh forgot, he is 10 weeks old and was 6 weeks premature, can i use those things?

hmm snufflebabe says 3m, so do all the Karvol things

maybe just olbas oil in hot water in the room?

Sparkletastic · 03/12/2007 22:00

I had some success with one of those suction bulb things that draws the snot out of t'baby. Strangely satisfying too...

mandymac · 03/12/2007 22:01

Not medised 3 months is youngest age shown on pack. I think the saline nose drops are ok because they are a bit like tears iyswim I have just checked pack I have at home and doesn't say anything about age at all (assume it would if there was a lowest age for use). But would recommend googling to be sure.
Regarding the vicks, snuffle babe, baby olbas oil etc. I don't think any problem with a bit on a hanky near DS. I used to put on a tissue and put it under DDs mattress, at the head end of her cot.
Also, sitting with them in the bathroom with shower running until it is nice and steamy in there.

aaaargh · 03/12/2007 22:26

hot steamy bathroom and saline drops!
worked for us.

sparklygothkat · 03/12/2007 22:31

some menthol crystals melted in boiling water (out of reach of course)

Only use one or two crystals or else you will be crying - they are VERY potent!

Works wonders

Hope LO gets better soon

Alambil · 03/12/2007 23:50

oops forgot to add - any chemist will sell them

ooh ooh i know this

you can get a pipette and you literally suck the stuff out! it's fantastic, works like a dream. you physically see the stuff coming out. and you can do it as much as you want, it doesn't hurt, it's like blowing their nose! I cannot recommend it enough. You get these little baby pipettes at pharmacies and I think i got mine from boots. Of course the rubber bulb gets full of baby snot but it's just as satisfying as that first nappy after two days of constipation. and they don't mind and you don't have to worry about meds, it's just great.
