Hysterosalpinogram v hysteroscopy pain

Having abnormal bleeding and a 7mm thick endometrium lining I have to have a hysteroscopy this week. I remember having an HSG for a fertility issue and whilst I don't remember it being hugely painful, it was very uncomfortable and I think I cried a little towards the end.. so anyway, I've chosen the hysteroscopy in outpatients rather than wait 3 weeks for a GA procedure. I can't help thinking - how bad can it be? But I know for some women it can be very painful. I'm ok with smears and that sort of thing but my anticipation is creating it to be a very painful procedure, especially at my age, with no kids (and hardly any jiggy-jiggy ;-)

So.. I was told to take painkillers.. anyone recommend which ones work best, and how many to take?

Anyone asked for gas and air during the procedure?

Ugh..!

So following my procedure today. It was bloody painful. Again, I cried due to pain (big woss that I am), and kept telling them to 'take it out!'. Apparently my cervix was very tight due to not having kids, and causing problems so it had to be dilated and the procedure more difficult than normal. They managed to get inside and saw that I have a small polyp however, due to my pain reaction, they could not remove and this will now have to be removed under a general. They offered a local anaesthetic but was not having a bloody injection up my hoohah!

In future, I will absolutely insist on a general for this procedure. My hospital did not have gas/air facilities.

I'm not saying all women react to the procedure as I did, but for me personally, it was something I wouldn't go through again unless under a general, and to be honest, painkillers didn't do anything.
