My toddler is in hospital with a fever of 39.8, a cough and drowsiness/unresponsive. I also have a fever and a cough so DH had to take him in. We are all waiting for covid results. I keep having extreme coughing fits where im coughing so hard that this horrible deep sound comes out and it feels like my chest is ripping open. Im coughing so hard im being sick and my throat and stomach are throbbing from how hard my body is coughing and throwing up empty stomach by this point so it's killing me. Im so worried about my little boy but im getting worried about myself too and I don't know if I need to go in to? I have 5 minute periods after throwing up where im ok but I can already feel the deep in my chest need to cough again and I know in a few minutes I'll be back over the toilet. No nausea just coughing that hard. What do I do im in bits and can't get hold of dh to check on my baby or get help for myself

I think you need to be at the hospital too.

ConstanceGracy · 06/09/2021 22:54

Sorry meant ds!

notangelinajolie · 06/09/2021 22:56

Covid or not.
Try to sit up and hold a pillow into your stomach when you are coughing.
I had a chronic cough and ended up in hospital because I had retched so hard that I had burst a vessel in my abdomen and ended up with internal bleeding in a stomach muscle. I was breathless, being sick and coughing all at the same time and the strain was just too much. If you have abdominal pain you should go to A&E.
I had a CT scan and diagnosed with rectus sheath haematoma. They were worried enough to send me to the front of the queue and I went straight into the scan room before all the people already waiting there
Flowers for you and your baby

Hope you’ve got help OP, sounds like you need to be seen.

Makinganewthinghappen · 06/09/2021 23:07

I hope you are ok OP Flowers

NCBlossom · 06/09/2021 23:11

Sending flowers too.

I'm also hoping you called someone medical. They can triage you in a way that mumsnet or our advice can't.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/09/2021 00:08

I very much hope you are getting help OP as you sound so unwell.
Wishing you and your little DS a quick recovery from whatever it is.

I’m just recovering from covid and spent a week in hospital.

An ambulance came out twice before they finally took me in, as they were super supportive of me being a single mum with no family to have ds, so wanted to keep me at home if at all possible.

Ambulances carry sophisticated equipment for covid these days. They can treat you at home with oxygen and monitor in all sorts of ways. They were brilliant and didn’t mind helping me at all… in fact told me off for not calling them earlier!

So, please don’t hesitate to call an ambulance if you’re in such a state, you need help and it’s easier to stabilise you the earlier you ask for help when you are getting as bad as you sound.

Sounds just like the cough I get when I have bronchitis (which I get every few years or so).

Roguehair · 07/09/2021 03:06

Hope you managed to get medical helpFlowers . A word of caution though. Pulse Oximeters don’t work as well on dark skins compared to light skins. They can give out false readings. It’s probably better to get yourself checked out properly if you have dark skin.

Suzi888 · 07/09/2021 03:19

I get an horrendous every year for about three months. You need to have a cough for three weeks before G.P will do anything (I’ve been told). Anyway I’ve had a chest X-ray and heart ultrasound, antibiotics very rarely.
@notangelinajolie that sounds horrific! Sad

Hope you both feel better soon OP. Don’t drink tea/milk makes it worse!

PluggingAway · 07/09/2021 04:19

I know exactly how awful it is when your baby is very ill in hospital and you can't be with them because you are also very ill.

Please listen to the people who have told you that you need to look after yourself. The best possible thing you can do for your son right now is to take your own health seriously and focus on trying to get better. He is in the best place he can be.

custardbear · 07/09/2021 04:56

It's not whooping cough is it? The coughing snd sickness is common but I think if I recall it's usually second phase where whooping cough starts vomiting.
Whatever it is I hope you've had some good news from hospital

Happyhappyday · 07/09/2021 05:27

Also sounds like whooping cough to me.

MyOtherProfile · 07/09/2021 05:29

Hope you are ok and getting help.

0DimSumMum0 · 07/09/2021 05:43

Could not read and run as you both sound so poorly. Hope you are both okay and that you have sought help op!

Monty27 · 07/09/2021 06:08

You're presenting as anxious OP. possibly not covid at all.
Best thing you can do is have sugary tea and strategically and calmly be prepared for the next step.
You might be needed and the best way to deal with it is keeping in control.
I hope you're all okay though 💐

DiscoDown21 · 07/09/2021 06:11

I know OP isn’t back and hopefully is being treated/checked. Hope you are all ok.

Please note that you don’t have to be breathless to be seriously ill, lots of people with Covid have silent hypoxia: they feel ‘ok’ yet their o2 saturation’s are in their boots. This is why it’s important to get checked out. Hospital staff would rather check out and send people home than see those turning up needing immediate ICU as they’ve been in low sats for too long.

Hospitals have large groups of people not admitted but monitored with oximetry in the community for this reason.

Monty27 · 07/09/2021 06:24

Hope you're able to give us a positive update OP

Attiladahun · 07/09/2021 06:43

You're presenting as anxious OP. possibly not covid at all.

I think it’s entirely possible to be both unwell and anxious at the same time. Especially if OPs toddler is in hospital .

biggerthehoops · 07/09/2021 06:52

Hope you're much better today and also your little one xx
