My toddler is in hospital with a fever of 39.8, a cough and drowsiness/unresponsive. I also have a fever and a cough so DH had to take him in. We are all waiting for covid results. I keep having extreme coughing fits where im coughing so hard that this horrible deep sound comes out and it feels like my chest is ripping open. Im coughing so hard im being sick and my throat and stomach are throbbing from how hard my body is coughing and throwing up empty stomach by this point so it's killing me. Im so worried about my little boy but im getting worried about myself too and I don't know if I need to go in to? I have 5 minute periods after throwing up where im ok but I can already feel the deep in my chest need to cough again and I know in a few minutes I'll be back over the toilet. No nausea just coughing that hard. What do I do im in bits and can't get hold of dh to check on my baby or get help for myself

You DS is being looked after. Call 111 as you need to make sure that you are looked after.

Scbchl · 06/09/2021 21:37

Call 111

BeaFlowers · 06/09/2021 21:38

Call 111
In the meantime and just because they are handy to have, get on Amazon prime and order an oximeter.
Do you know anyone with one close by that can drop it on doorstep to borrow?

VaccineSticker · 06/09/2021 21:38

User3456 · 06/09/2021 21:40

Honestly, I would call 999 if you're feeling that poorly. Really hope you and your little one are better very soon.

TokyoSushi · 06/09/2021 21:40

Oh that sounds awful, call 111 or if you get any worse 999, I hope you're all much better very soon.

Aspiringmatriarch · 06/09/2021 21:40

Just chiming in with those who've said to call 111. Don't leave it, especially as you're on your own. I'm so sorry, what a miserable and scary situation. Sending you all possible good thoughts. I'm sure your little one is being incredibly well cared for and you'll be hugging him soon. Concentrate on looking after you at the moment. FlowersFlowers

If you need to, call 999. My daughter and her friends all have covid and her friends dad called an ambulance for her last night as he was concerned and she didn't sound as bad as you. They checked her over and gave her oxygen in the house and told her to up her fluids and call again if concerned.

AntiSocialDistancer · 06/09/2021 21:41

Call 111, you need a doctor too Flowers

VaccineSticker · 06/09/2021 21:43

From the symptoms you are describing it is def not a 111 situation.
You need urgent help. Please call 999.

Onairjunkie · 06/09/2021 21:43

Lay on your front, order an oximeter on Amazon Prime and call 111. Drink plenty of fluids.

GratedRed · 06/09/2021 21:44

Phone for medical advice. Text a family member or friend saying what you’ve told us so someone else knows how I’ll you are. If you can’t speak text someone to phone for an ambulance for you at any point. It’s really okay to phone for help and not need it after being assessed than get worse. Your DS is in good hands and getting treatment and kids bounce back, he needs you fighting fit for when he does.

Motnight · 06/09/2021 21:44

Call 999.

Maria1982 · 06/09/2021 21:45

For the stomach pain when coughing , I was advised years ago to hold a pillow firmly around my middle when coughing
The idea is that you are giving your middle/torso support so the stomach and core muscles can relax into the pillow - therefore not straining.

If you are coughing to the point of vomiting this may be less helpful, but I wanted to share in case it’s of use.

GratedRed · 06/09/2021 21:45

@Onairjunkie that’s good advise about everyone having a pulse ox, but I really don’t think she can wait until it arrives tomorrow afternoon to check, she needs assessing tonight.

EgonSpengler2020 · 06/09/2021 21:45

The coughing sounds really unpleasant, but if you can still walk up and down stairs twice without severe shortness of breath and prolonged recovery time and you temperature is being successfully brought down by paracetamol then you really just need to ride it out and not call 999.

Being ill sucks Flowers

VaccineSticker · 06/09/2021 21:45

An oximeter is too late to buy now. She needs urgent help with out a delay.

Maria1982 · 06/09/2021 21:46

But also yes to calling 111! Sorry

MuthaHubbard · 06/09/2021 21:46

Call 999

Yeah that’s fair. I reread the OP and it does sound more urgent. I only skimmed before. I’d probably call 999.

Whatwillbetheendofus · 06/09/2021 21:48

Please get help OP

HollowTalk · 06/09/2021 21:49

I think I'd call 999 too. I really hope everything is ok.

olidora63 · 06/09/2021 21:50

Toddler will be ok .Get help for yourself 111 or 999.💐

NortieTortie · 06/09/2021 21:50

Absolutely call 111 if you haven't already - I had these exact symptoms last year along with breathlessness and wheezing. 111 sent an ambulance and it turns out it wasn't covid at all, but a nasty chest infection that left me with an asthma diagnosis. Fingers crossed for you and baby Flowers

Plumtree391 · 06/09/2021 21:51

Poor you, I'm sure your little one will be fine, they usually recover quicker than their parents! I can imagine how you feel, not being with him.
