Carmenere · 02/12/2007 16:26

Oh so sorry Zip you must be very worried, sorry I am not familiar with the condition.

zippitippitoes · 02/12/2007 16:37

apparently his chest cavity filed with air and his lung collapsed and he has a chest drain or drip

Misdee · 02/12/2007 16:39

ouch!

it will be a drain+bottle combo. like this

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/12/2007 16:41

Is he tall and thin ?

Very common in young men.

Misdee · 02/12/2007 16:41

sorry for where that pics from, not saying that this is the issue with your dgs dad. just i knew there was a pictuire on that site

zippitippitoes · 02/12/2007 16:42

i think that soiunds like it he was given morphine

dd2 thinks it is neuro thorax or something which is because he is tall and thin

had to have the air pumped out twice because it didn't work the first time

There's a good description of it all here if that helps zippi. I'm sure he'll be fine, but it must be scary.

zippitippitoes · 02/12/2007 17:00

ah thank you for that link mthat is obviously it...very helpful

his was quite bad then i think as the taking the air out didn't work and it filled up again

he is a smoker too

You're welcome zippi- I guess at least he will know to be on the look-out if it happens again. Hope he does well

mymatemax · 02/12/2007 20:12

ds2 had this when he was a couple of days old (very prem). In his case his lungs were so thin & under too much pressure he just popped a hole in his lung & the air escaped collapsing the lung.
It is entirely treatable & as the others have said can be common in young men.
I hope he's on the mend

zippitippitoes · 02/12/2007 21:18

My cousin had that at about the same age, very common in tall thin people. He is 1.97 m tall!
