if it's viral conjunctivitis there's not much you can do to treat it, except keep the eyes clean with cotton wool and saline solution.

A doctor would need to prescribe anti biotic drops if it is caused by a bacteria.

bigspender30 · 02/12/2007 10:17

thanks belgo. how do you know which one it is?

the difference is hard to tell.

If he has a cold/cough, then the chances are it's viral.

If it began in one eye, then spread to the other, then it may be bacterial.

Iiwy, I would carry on cleaning his eyes for the next couple of days, and if it is no better, then go to the doctors.

you would have to take him to the doctor for the doc to decide which it is

well thats what I did as I couldn't be sure in my own head thatI knew fro def that it was viral and therefore nothing could be done
turned out gecko and dd1 had viral conjuntivitus so doc didn'tr prescribe anything and I got optrex soothing eye drops (just witchhazel type stuff) for dd1 and used bm in geckos eyes

was just trying to soothe the symptoms for dd1 as that is all you can do with viral things

hope your ds feels better soon

he has had a cold/fever/rash and the doctor said that was a virus so chances are its viral. I cleaned his eyes this morning with cotton wool and warm water. Will give it a couple of days then and hopefully it will clear up. thanks for your help x
