Can a doctor send a prescription to anywhere in the country?

Ds is registered at his local GP where he goes to uni but is staying at home longer than planned.

He needs new inhalers and epi pens. Can he ring his GP and ask them to send the prescription to a pharmacy here?

Thanks in advance Smile

Yes!

I’ve done this lots- usually gone on holidays in England and forgotten some vital epi pen!

If they send it to your local pharmacy you can call the pharmacy get the code for the prescription then give that code to any pharmacy/

Well that’s my experience in England!

Yes, they can do that. Failing that, 111 will help him out.

Yes of course. Just echoing User5827372728: ask them to send it to the pharmacy closest to you/DS.
It's been a while since I was a receptionist at DH's practice, but we used to just fax them over to the local pharmacy wherever the patient was. No problem. I doubt they fax these days. Does anyone even use a fax now? Grin

Yeah I did that on holiday in Cornwall, had packed meds bud didn't check the box and didn't have enough and asked a walk in centre how to deal with it. They gave me the pharmacy code for the local Boots, which I passed to my GP and they sent a script electronically

In theory they can but my doctor tried to send one to Wales for me last week and for some reason the system wouldn’t let him send it so we gave up and I waited till I got home.
