Sunlight and lots of feeding, as often as you can manage. Has your milk come in yet ? They do have to be very yellow to send you back and even then it may not need treatment. Good luck.

LilRedMummyGiraffe · 01/12/2007 09:39

Put him by the window to get lots and lots of sunlight and feed him as much as possible. That's what we did with DD and she was okay. Good luck and congratulations!

Sorry - I don't know if there is a history to this thread and I don't know who Daniel is but in general yellow skin tone can be a sign of liver problems and should be taken very seriously .

DanJARMouse · 01/12/2007 09:41

Sorry, Im being all precious first born again, i know....

Right, so lots of feeds and some sunlight... right - be back later then!

Fingers crossed he will be ok!

Daniel is JARM's new baby!

pagwatch · 01/12/2007 09:42

ahhh - very new baby ! ( clunk ! thud ! Brain finally leaps into action ).
Do what everyone else said

pagwatch · 01/12/2007 09:43

and congratulations of course!

ShowOfHands · 01/12/2007 09:44

I'm sure he'll be fine. DD was very jaundiced when born and distinctly yellow. If they had any concerns at all they'd ask you to nip to the hospital for a quick test of his bilirubin levels.

ggirlsbells · 01/12/2007 09:44

ds was like this for a week or so although we were already in hospital

can make them extra sleepy as well

ShowOfHands · 01/12/2007 09:48

Yes, dd was super sleepy with it. Hate to sound like my mother and you of course know all this anyway but if you're sitting in a window make sure the light isn't concentrated or too bright/hot on Daniel. My midwife says she hated reminding mothers of this but the one time she didn't she ended up with a newborn with sunburn and in October too. Took about 5 days for dd to look pink.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 01/12/2007 09:48

Mine were both yellow for about a week afterwards dd had light treatment in hospital before we left but ds didn't, in fact I thought he had lovely olive skin!

Santasmissyontheside · 01/12/2007 09:50

congratulations!

AnAngelWithin · 01/12/2007 09:56

lots of sunlight, lots of feeding to flush it out his system. dd2 has this. keep waking him up to feed him. it makes them sleepy.

and congratulations!!

SevenSwansASlouching · 01/12/2007 09:59

Congrats to JARM and family.
Saw the labour thread the other day but not the outcome. Loving your new name too.

No advice re jaundice I'm afraid.

DanJARMouse · 01/12/2007 18:19

Little update - MW thought he was a little jaundiced too and gave the same advice as you lot here, but I am to call tomorrow if Im not happy with his colour as they will leave me until monday for another home visit.

thanks again, im such a worrier!

Chances are he'll see more sunshine now than my ds did in June!!

If you do have to go back for blood tests, take a few snacks and a good book as it took them absolutely ages to get the results back and then there wasn't a paed to let us know what they were so we spent 5 hours on the postnatal ward before being told everything was fine.
