Worried I have got BV from this?

I don’t have anxiety about this stuff usually but have been unable to stop worrying about this for the last month. I don’t have sex much with my partner as I get so worried about it but last time he put his fingers inside me which he rarely does and now I keep thinking what if that’s transferred bacteria. I feel really worried about it and keep thinking I have symptoms. I’ve never really done this in the past and just feel so worried.

I have had fingers inside me so many times that I am surprised there’s not a permanent imprint up there

@putthebinsout

Without wanting to sound crude... I'm in my 40s and over the past 25 years have had all manner of fingers, toys, appendages and even the odd vegetable inside me and I've never had BV.

I do have health anxiety (mine is mostly around my heart and lungs) so I understand and I'm not trying to make you feel silly or dismissing how you feel but this is definitely a worry thats in your head rather than a real thing.

The vagina is amazing at cleaning itself. You'll be fine

Thanks @putthebinsout, this made me actually cry with laughter Grin

Thanks for the support. I feel a bit calmer. I really want to get hold of this as it is such a horrible part of my life.

I've had sex at festivals, so definitely very low levels of hand hygiene and have never had bv.
With dh I've also had lots of 'sex as soon as you get in the front door' style sex, so again zero hand washing!

I appreciate this must be hard for you but life must be difficult for your dp too. Please seek the help that so many on this thread have suggested you need op.

Glad you're feeling a bit calmer OP.

You definitely can get this anxiety under control, I promise you. Go to your GP and get some support, you need to be able to enjoy your sex life without guilt or fear.

And PLEASE remember that in the tiny tiny chance you had it it can be so easily sorted and is nothing to worry about whatsoever.

OP, you have health anxiety which is a form of OCD. Fear of contamination is absolutely classic presentation. This is not a realistic worry that most people have. Googling and asking a doctor for reassurance won’t help you with the real issue; I speak as someone with OCD (proper, diagnosed, I’m not just being glib). I suffered for years like you - in my case, fear of HIV (from sources which couldn’t give it me, like touching sanitary bins in toilets) or asbestos contamination. Again, both very common presentations of the illness. You need to go to the GP and talk about your anxiety and possible OCD. Your BV fear is not rational and it’s not your real problem here. Flowers

Would it help to know that the bacteria that causes BV occurs naturally in the vagina, it is only when the ph in your vagina changes or when there is a bacterial imbalance which can be caused by a few things being out of balance in your body.

Your body has up to 10,000 different micro organisms and more micro organisms than body cells. Many potential pathogens exist in and on our bodies and are only harmful when they are present in excessive quantities.

Some of these imbalances require antibiotics followed by pre and probiotics to correct, some can be helped by dietary changes.

I would also explore whether there is something in your past which is triggered by this type of sexual contact and if you and your partner can make changes to prevent this.
