Any dentists or fellow NHS patients that can advise me re treatment. Went to dentist today. My DD age 13 needs 2 fillings (first she has needed). If I pay £120+ they will be white. If I want the treatment free under the NHS (we have an exemption) then they will be silver amalgam. DD doesnt want any silver in her mouth and I dont have the money. She says her friend had white fillings on NHS? I know its not life or death but anyone know?

i think they can do white fillings on the nhs if it's a front tooth. but the NHS currently belives that amalgam is the strongest material and therefore when it's not a cosmetically strategic tooth, they'll only pay for amalgam.

Thanks, and love the name. Must admit that since our last practice went private and we were put with a brand new, NHS, (foreign) practice. Have felt like we are getting a second class service. DD hates the idea of silver in her mouth but I will not pay £120 for white. I need the money for school trips (other thread tonight) Just needed to check I wasnt being fobbed off.

I had to pay for a white filling in a molar - think it was £30 though so quite a bit cheaper.

tell her its a bit of bling.

Yes, the NHS will only provide white fillings on visible teeth.

The price depends on the size of the whole and how much filling material is used, so it doesn't mean you are being ripped off if you are charged £60 and someone else is charged £30. (I am a dental receptionist)
