Help to soothe a sore bottom?

Dh (40) has stage four bowel cancer.

He's on a new chemo (the last option really) from this he is having a lot of toilet trouble. He has not quite diarrhoea not fully liquid but still needs to close to a toilet. This has given him a very sore anus, and as he's been going so often and has to strain a fair amount he thinks he has a pile.

This is on top of all the other side effects from chemo 😞

Any remedies you could recommend for both the soreness and the pile? He's to stubborn and embarrassed to ask his oncology team, if I was allowed in on Tuesday when he has chemo I would have a word with one of the nurses, but I'm still not allowed in with him 😡

Thank you

  1. Clean thoroughly after each visit ~ wet wipes etc. Never tried the ky jelly but if already painful I've sometimes used a soft cream. It MUST be clean, otherwise anything you put on may trap the faeces underneath
  1. If he has any leakage or incontinence, then a barrier cream eg. Metanium
  1. If no leakage, just sore skin, then a soothing cream eg. Sudocrem

I use facial tissues instead of loo roll when I'm struggling with diarrhoea ...much much softer than even the best loo roll. Vaseline helps too.

Thank you all, it seems to have calmed down now.

The new water wipes are excellent. My DH had a very sore anus recently and he used a very small amount of steroid cream, it worked wonders.
