Multiple periods after taking MAP along with regular pill (pharmacist ok'd it)!

About 2 months ago I took a MAP along with the mini pill (wasn't sure I'd taken the previous pill within the 3 hr window). Anyway since then I have had 4 periods, a couple have been induced by sex and....er heavy petting ! Anyway, have yet to have a smear as I have to be not bleeding for that and have only had the odd week free (and forgot to make the appt).

Obv I am worried it could be cervical cancer or something, although the dr seems to think I am worrying for no reason (and I have seen him a few times about this). Has anyone else had this type of experience as it really starting to get me down?!?

ok, did you know that you can have a smear at anytime when you are not bleeding. And any nurse that says otherwise is wrong. This information was discovered during the Canterbury enquiry.

when you say sex and heavy petting has induced a period do you mean that you have had several days of bleeding or some spotting

greeneyedgirl · 30/11/2007 14:15

I mean spotting followed by bleeding like a period. As soon as I have stopped bleeding this time I am making an appt for the smear. But it is getting ridiculous now, I'm feeling worried.

Having a wacky month after the MAP is quite normal. And having several wacky months and lots of bleeding on the mini pill when you have just started taking it is pretty normal (me, I got lots of breakthrough bleeding on the mini pill the whole 7 years I took it (not quite so bad as yours, but I too found it very difficult to book a smear test) which is why I am not taking it again).

My totally-medically-unqualified opinion is that probably the MAP has shaken up your system and hormone balance to the extent that it's as if you've just started taking the mini pill and your hormones haven't yet settled down into a more stable state, hence all the bleeding.

You really should try to get a smear done, though, as soon as you get another bleeding-free patch.

it is wholly unlikely to be cervical cancer, but bleeding like this needs checking out

i wonder if it is a hormonal issue following the MAP?

what did your doctor say about the bleeding apart from not to worry?

breakthrough bleeding can be to do with hormones

and bleeding caused by sex can sometimes be to do with cervical erosions which are not cancerous.

when did you last have a smear?

I haven't had a smear for far too long, probably about 6 yrs. The dr seems to think it is probably stress (the sexual encounter that started the pattern was not a good experience and I really beat myself up over it) and possibly the MAP as well.

I am very stressed out and anxious alot at the moment, due to going through a divorce and stuff, so I do tend to panic at the slightest thing as well!

When I first started taking the mini pill years ago I did have a weird bleeding pattern for a while, but this time round all was fine until the MAP.
