Hi. DS has had a bad cough now for about 7 weeks....started as a fever and sore throat, then it became a dry, night cough, and then it evolved into a rattling mucus type cough that was worse in the morning....now its a streaming cold (still with cough)....I took him to Dr's as it had been going on a bit too long...and GP told me it could be asthma!!! Im no doc but dont asthmatics have breathing problems, and wheezing etc???

I get this problem. When I get a cold, if I get a cough with it, the cough just stays and stays, for months sometimes. Have been to docs in the past and been given asthma inhalers. Don't have problems with breathing/wheezing but I think v.v. mild asthma can just have cough as symptom rather than the breathing stuff. Only have to use the inhalers occasionally, when I get one of these lingering coughs, and they work really well. Not sure what kind of inhalers they have for babies/children - depends how old your DS is I suppose.
DS has had a cold and cough for a couple of weeks now so I'm hoping it's not the same thing!

DS's nursery teacher tells me she has seen children start nursery for the first time and get back to back coughs and cold for months...I wonder if it could be this?

Guess it would make sense esp if first time has come into prolonged close contact with other LOs - those germs must just get passed back and forth like wildfire! Hope he is better soon. x
