unexplained weight loss, diarrhoea, night sweats in menopause

Is anyone else going through the same symptoms as me.
I am 52, no periods for 12 months and not taking hrt. Every night I am having awful night sweats 2 or 3 times a night dripping wet all over my body. hardly sleeping. I started losing weight about 3 months ago without even trying. I was not over weight beforehand and am now at the lowest weight I have been for 20+ years. Very strange and a huge worry. The last 3/4 weeks I have been getting a lot of diarrhoea nearly every day. Worried and awaiting to talk with the doctor. I am really hoping its menopause related as if not it all seems to point to cancer when i google my symptoms. Hoping someone else has the same symptoms and can help me.

Is there any chance you may be diabetic?

GrrRightBackAtYou · 09/08/2021 16:09

Google always links whatever symptoms you google to cancer. It causes a lot of worry.

I hope you can speak to the dr soon but there are other possible causes for Weight loss & diarrhoea -any family history of thyroid issues?

hyperthyroidism leads to an overactivity of the sympathetic system. It also goes on to mention that this sympathetic hyperstimulation in the gut leads to increased motility leading to diarrhea and malabsorption

Have you had any unexplained bleeding (gums, nosebleeds, bruising)?

Or breathlessness? Fatigue? Feeling that you ache to your very bones?

Because those together with an infection hard to shift (the persistent diarrhoea), night sweats and unintended weight loss suggest to me that you need to talk to your GP as a matter of some urgency and get blood tests done (including a full blood count)

There are many possible causes of a basket of non-specific symtoms such as those, but you do need to get the potentially serious ones excluded asap.

Thank you both for kindly replying. I did wonder if it could be thyroid problems or diabetes but I had blood tests done recently and all were within normal ranges apart from my cholestrol which was high at 6.4. I am being referred to a gastrologist and hope to speak to him tomorrow.
Horrible waiting and googling!! thank you xxx

Change of bowel habits lasting over 3 weeks is a symptom which should be referred

Again, there are many possibly causes, but they may want to do a colonoscopy to rule out cancer. They'll repeat the bloods, and you'll probably have to provide a stool sample.

Thank you Auntiestella,
i am quite unfit so I do get breathless occasionally but nothing new. The odd nose bleed but again nothing that stands out as new.
Full blood count done and all ok apart from chlorestrol being high.
I am getting the usual other menopause symptoms, brain fog, memory loss, no energy, heart palpitations and bad anxiety. What fun!
Hoping the gastrologist does some tests to find out what it could be. i do get central pain above my belly button too. Hoping its all menopause related xxx
