stupid question re nappy rash

treating it with zinc oxide but then how do i get rid of the gunky paste it generates before/during/after bath???

argh - in know zo is good but when i bath LO i want to clean skin underneath it!

feeling really stupid

If you want to bath LO do it before you put cream on. It does act as a barrier, as does Vaseline.

When cleaning bottom don't use baby wipes, these alone can cause nappy rash. Use cotton wool and water and if really dirty use some soap on cotton wool. My three LO's got nappy rash from wipes.

I use washable wipes made from cotton material which I just throw into wash. I use these on wet bottoms and use cotton wool on pooey bums.

My big brother gave me the best piece of advice ever. He worked with physically handicapped adults at the time so knew his stuff.

Nappy rash happens because of wet and heat. After cleaning and before putting on nappy always dry area with a towel. I have colour coded face towels so that there is no mix up. If area is completely dry before nappy (and cream) is put on, nappy rash should go away and never come back.
