To buy medication online?

I have a thyroid issue, fron results I've been getting and an opinion from a private fertility specialist I should be 25mg if thyroxine.

I'm really depressed and this is the reason because my thyroid isn't working at optimum levels, also TTC and been told this medication will put thyroid levels in optimum category.

I've asked my gp to give me the meds they keep refusing,

What should I do? Barge into the surgery and make a real fuss or just find an online chemist?

DH keeps telling me I'm silly and should just buy online but I'm worried it could be dodgy. Anyone bought from ab online chemist before? An authorised one?

Please can you provide details of so.

@Saoirse82 thank you so much that's useful info.

I'm going to take 25mg daily as it's such a small amount and my levels are so low that it should not do any harm.

I can't go on feeling like this so the risk is worth it for the reward.

I feel very low.

Please ensure it's 25mcg, not 25mg - v different!

Couldhavebeenme2 · 04/08/2021 22:57
@Neondisco my levels are;

Free thyroxine 11.9 (on refererence range of 12-22) this is the part that's off

Free T3 is 4.1 and tsh is 2.2
I've recently (finally) been diagnosed with under active thyroid - NHS guidelines AFAIK are to not treat subclinical tsh of up to 10!

Mine finally reached 14.9, I think you will struggle to find an NHS gp to prescribe at 2.2. Maybe see a private gp who CAN prescribe?

enoughforme · 04/08/2021 22:57

@palmwhite shit this is the reason why I guess you shouldn't self prescribe lol because I haven't checked that!!

OP posts:
enoughforme · 04/08/2021 22:58

@palmwhite phew it is 25 mcg just checked the order lol

OP posts:
enoughforme · 04/08/2021 22:58

@Couldhavebeenme2 but it's not just about the tsh levels why is my free thyroxine so low?

OP posts:
Orangesandlemons82 · 04/08/2021 23:04

Have you had your bloods taken before 9am before you have had anything to eat or drink? This is when TSH levels are naturally highest. They drop through the day.

Saoirse82 · 04/08/2021 23:12

My tsh is 3 at the moment and my free thyroxine is 11.5 and I'm 25 weeks pregnant. They wouldn't have even had me on thyroxine only I put myself on my old meds. My free thyroxine would be a fair bit lower and my TSH a fair bit higher if I didn't start taking thyroxine again. I think when your subclinical even in pregnancy and even maternity endocrinology won't see subclinical cause for concern. You'll likely findthat you'll have to keep an eye on this yourself every 6 to 8 weeks because that's what I've had to do unfortunately.
I understand the rollercoaster ride that is ttc, it can very tough and it's taken me years to get here and I can empathise with the down days and desperately looking for answers and feeling like no-one will listen to you, hoping you'll find that once you're on the thyroxine it won't be long before you see your bfp Flowers

This is the most frustrating thread. It's full of misinformation, and people saying 'it can't hurt' - of course it can! It's ridiculous you'd encourage OP like that.

You clearly don't actually know what you're doing OP, you don't even know the difference between MG and MCG. Yet you believe you know better than multiple doctors? Eugh.

Theunamedcat · 04/08/2021 23:41

Your t3 is off are you sure your underactive

Nat6999 · 04/08/2021 23:53

My GP insisted my thyroid levels were borderline for years until I went because my hair was coming out in handfuls, my thyroid level then was 11, I have been on 75mcg for almost 18 months now. Have you had your iron & B12 levels checked? I recently found out that all 3 are linked & having any one out of line affects the rest, check what your levels are & get good quality supplements, include folic acid, magnesium, Vitamin B complex & Vitamin C to ensure that any B12 & Iron supplements are absorbed.

Gardentiger · 05/08/2021 00:18

Your TSH doesn't seem very raised for the T4 to be that low. Did they test for thyroid antibodies?

It might be best to either go back to the GP or try and see a different one before taking the plunge and starting on thyroxine.

Gardentiger · 05/08/2021 00:26

If you are genuinely concerned about OP self medicating, maybe you could point out the dangers, as looking at your post history you appear to be a HCP. What's the point of coming on to the thread to the threat to say "eugh" at an OP who is feeling unwell and seeking advice?
NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:41

I tried to buy online and the ones that are kosher want loads of info etc.

Go private?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:41

'private fertility specialist I should be 25mg if thyroxine.'

Can't they prescribe?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:45

'I'm really depressed and this is the reason because my thyroid isn't working at optimum levels, also TTC and been told this medication will put thyroid levels in optimum category.

I've asked my gp to give me the meds they keep refusing,'

Have you had any tests via GP?

What reasons are they giving for not prescribing?

What tests did the fertility service do?

If you're going in and saying prescribe me this that's not going to go down well.

What are your symptoms?

The fertility service should be sharing test results with GP. Is that happening?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:54

Sorry seen OP has covered my questions.

NHS info,:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/underactive-thyroid-hypothyroidism/treatment/

Can you see a different GP.

I tried online for an AD I'd had in the past. Loads of hoops to jump through.

Had read about easily buying drugs online- not my experience.

I would very much advise against purchasing online. You've never taken it before. Results are borderline.

NHS site says bloods need to be regularly done at start to see if dosage is right.

Don't do it.

And I doubt s reputable online service would give anyway in your case.

MissTrip82 · 05/08/2021 04:07

Who will monitor your bloods and adjust the dose?

If you think thyroxine can do no harm you’ve understood very very little of what you’ve been reading.

MissTrip82 · 05/08/2021 04:08

@Gardentiger no HCP can give advice to a random person on the internet.

Only people with no actual training, ethical duty or clinical responsibility are free to dish out advice.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 04:10

Pharmacy stuff is fine.

Boots etc offer this service.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 04:13
@Neondisco I paid for a thyroid specialist £200 he just fobbed me off and scammed me basically just said you're fine to conceive and he has no other advice.
OP tbh you seem very focused on this.

You've got a lot going on.

Was the thyroid specialist reputable?

That's your GP and a private doc who have said you don't need medication.

Why are you so focused on this? Couldn't they both be right?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 04:18
@seven201 I've asked private doctors and NHS ones and they won't do it / currently waiting the response from another private one but I've just ordered a prescription now as I can't cope.

I'm going to take it when it arrives, 25mg per day until all of this is sorted
OP please take a step back.

The reason they've all said no is likely because you don't need it.

Where did you order it from?

When I was looking for ADs I found nothing that would just dish it out. Literally nothing.

It's well known that medicines you get hold of easily (how did you manage that?) are often fake or dodgy.

You're IMO behaving irrationally. You are having fertility treatment v stressful.

Take a step back.

enoughforme · 05/08/2021 07:25

@Orangesandlemons82 no I've never been told to take this into account - so I should test first thing before good and drink?

OP posts:
enoughforme · 05/08/2021 07:27

@JaneTheVirgin I never claimed to know more than doctors but I know go sure they don't joke what they should because I wouldn't be feeling like shit and miscarrying if they did,

How is it one doctor says I should be in meds and the others don't? It's not a nice situation.
