Pain getting worse after fracture

Hi, two weeks ago I had a fall from my bike and in hospital I had stitches in my chin and I also had a broken elbow. I was put in a sling and told they will follow up with physio therapy in a few weeks. I haven't been referred to the fracture clinic (Covid restrictions in Ireland seem to mean they aren't referring people unless you need surgery)

In the past few days I have been having pain throughout my arm, including my thumb and arm which feels like a deep throbbing sensation. I am taking anti inflammation medication and some painkillers but this pain feels deep and is hard to correct with painkillers. From what I googled it seems it could be inflamed nerves? I had quite a big fall so I put a lot of pressure on my arm as I fell. Any help is appreciated as I've done a lot of Googling and just want to get a better idea of time scale and if this is normal

Thank you so much ladies x

I would go back to the hospital and get it checked out, you might need a xray or scan, is your elbow in a plaster or just a sling.

Just a sling and the first few days weren't too bad, it's just since then the pain changed and seemed to move throughout my arm

Hi I had a fall and fractured my elbow six weeks ago and it's more or less back to normal. I also wasn't admitted to the fracture clinic, because they were so busy - I was given a sling and a leaflet about management. Were you given a leaflet or any information? I would have thought you should be out of the sling by now, apparently it's important to keep mobilising the elbow. I suggest you try to find some medical advice, because I don't think the elbow should be getting more painful at this stage

A broken elbow diagnosed with no x-ray? Sounds a bot weird to me.

I had xrays which confirmed it

Back to the hospital, don't leave it.

I'd go back, you may need further x-rays or scan but nerve damage isn't something to be delayed or messed with

I broke my elbow very badly when I was 19. It was initially misdiagnosed in spite of x-rays; and the necessary surgery finished up being delayed because it became too swollen to operate. It had to be pinned and wired as it was in pieces and the surgeon said that I was very lucky to retain the use and feeling in my hand.

So .... if the pain is increasing I really do think you should get it looked at again. Elbows should not be messed with - lots of useful nerves to your hand pass through there!
