Anxiety in overdrive - gross picture warning

MiaAnnabell3 · 28/07/2021 15:05

I have severe health anxiety ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.

For the last few days I've had throat and ear pain in one side when swallowing. I had a look at my tonsils for signs of infection and found quite a large bulging white lump under/beneath my tonsil?!
It's only visible when I gag but its sent me into absolute panic.
My GPs are horrendous and only care about Covid so wont see me 🥺
Attached best picture I can get, it's disgusting I know but I'm literally making myself sick with fear.
Anyone got any ideas?

Tonsil stone. Nowt to worry about. You can remove it by gently pressing the area in front of it with a cotton wool bud

Its outside of the tonsil rather than embedded in it if that makes sense? Ive tried to dislodge it but it feels attached Sad

You may just have a throat infection. Give ur a few days to see if it goes down.

Really looks like a tonsil stone - mine look like that as they are coming away. You can probably ease it out gently; they do feel attached but they will come away. Or just wait it out and it will come off eventually - maybe gargle some warm salty water, that sometimes helps.

Thanks. I've had a gargle and a prod and it's not budging Sad
I've seen tonsil stones on google and they seem to be more like spots on the tonsils whereas this is a bulging white sac(?) that only appears when I gag. I'm so confused and worried Sad

Tonsil stone, I always had loads as a teenager, often had tonsilitis, kind of outgrew it.
Tyrozets are good at soothing,

When I was having an issue with my throat a few months ago the GP got me to send in a picture for review (all fine in my case). Could you contact the surgery and see if you can send in the picture so the GP can check it? They can then give you an appointment/referral if you need to be seen or set your mind at rest if it is nothing serious.

MiaAnnabell3 · 28/07/2021 16:28

My surgery thankfully phoned me back and have squeezed me in.
I'm waiting to be seen now.

Hope it’s all ok OP.

Been seen, it's not a tonsil stone. He thinks it's a tonsil polyp - he said it doesnt seem at all sinister as its soft white and mobile rather than fixed.
ENT appointments are taking 26 WEEKS so he has pushed this through as a 2 week wait due to my history and anxiety. Breaks my heart that it's gone down as a query cancer even though he made it clear he isnt concerned that it is.
