Had a cold, now can’t smell or taste

Just at the tail end of a cold now, about 11 days after it started and I still can’t smell or taste. I was really snotty and blowing my nose constantly but this has never happened before with a cold and I’m getting a bit worried now. Can’t smell a thing although my nose is clear now and I can breathe through it fine.
Had a pcr test for covid and that was negative so it’s not that.

Has anyone experienced this before and how long did it last?

Thank you.

I know someone who lost it for several weeks (few years ago so def. not Covid related) took the joy out of eating for them & they lost loads of weight. Had an old teacher who told us her father lost his sense of smell and never regained it. She said it was handy if poop scooping after the dog had been but not so great if your house was on fire but you couldn’t smell you were in danger.

That’s depressing and just what I fear ☹️

It could possible be that you have had covid and not a cold.
My daughter had what we thought was a mild cold at Christmas, it was only when others in the family became really ill and tested positive that we got her tested and discovered it wasn't a mild cold, it was covid x

I always lose my smell and taste senses when I have a cold. Just when I start getting panicked that I’ll never smell or taste again, it starts to come back. Either that, or it was covid that you had

I too have previously lost my taste/smell after a bad cold. Lasted a couple of weeks at most.

Thank you. I have been tested for covid and it was negative.
I must admit I am starting to panic a bit though. Hope it’s just a temporary thing.
