Any dentists about? Hard little lump on gum!

So in the last few days I’ve noticed a small very hard lump on my bottom gum (on the inner side/tongue side) and it’s just below my second pre-molar. It’s painless and the gum over it looks totally normal. It’s rock hard and feels just like bone. It goes white if you press it. What on earth could it be? It’s only on one side, no known injury although I’m a terrible teeth grinder and I’ve had some slight gum disease in the past which I’ve got on top of.

I have terrible health anxiety and I’ve decided it’s mouth cancer. I’m 36 and never smoked, moderate drinker and had a baby 8 months ago if that’s relevant. No dentists appointments available for ages so looking for advice and whether I need to panic.

Thanks

It could be a torus mandibularis. I have one and it doesn't cause any bother.

Oh thank you! Is yours only on one side? I saw online that torus are usually on both side so wasn't sure...

Could be a dental fistula. Small bump usually present on gum.

Reallyreallyborednow · 25/07/2021 16:58

You say you’ve just had a baby? It could be a pyogenic granuloma- a hormonal driven growth.

Not cancer, but you should see your dentist as they often need removing.

Foreverbaffled · 25/07/2021 17:08

Thanks for the suggestions. It doesn't bleed at all and isn't sore. Just feels like bone so doesn't quite fit the profile of those things. It's so odd.

I get those. Then they just disappear after a while. Weird.

So weird! I don't mind what it does as long as it doesn't kill me GrinConfused

Like bone hard, almost like tiny pearls under the skin?

Yes very hard, same as the bone in my jaw. Are yours like that?

Yes!

I have so many autoimmune things going on though I just kind of shrugged. I'm a walking medical disaster.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Will chalk it up to a weird body thing for now and hope for the best. Thanks for the reassurance.

I'd make an appointment and get it checked out, even if that app is for a few months time just so it's documented and checked

I posted a few weeks ago about something thag sounds similar. I went to see my dentist who said it was a tori. Nothing sinister or needing attention.

Thank you! I just found your post. My lump isn't white like it looks in your picture but otherwise sounds the same. Is yours only on one side too?

@Foreverbaffled, did you find out what it is?

Foreverbaffled · 04/11/2021 21:41

Hi @BobaTea, Dentist and hygienist have both seen it and couldn’t have been less bothered. Didn’t even get a diagnosis. Probably a tori though as someone mentioned above. It’s still there a few months later and hasn’t changed at all!

@Foreverbaffled, glad to hear it's nothing to worry about. I've one too on the upper molar. X-ray didn't show anything.
