Pain under skull/top of spine - excruciating

I think I pulled a muscle a few days ago and on and off I have this really bad pain, to the right of the top of my spine, sort of under the skull. I don't have any other symptoms. Yesterday it was to all intents and purposes better, but in the night I must have pulled it again and it's agony. A hot water bottle on my head helps.
Is this a neck-brace scenario? (Please say no,) I am reluctant to go to the dr for a pulled muscle but obv can't jeep messing around with pain near my spine and brain. It got better and got pulled again before as well
It really hurts.....

Take the max amount of nurofen every four hours for a couple of days. It won't do you any harm, it's an anti-inflammatory (sp?)so should help. My dh was told to take nurofen like this for a bad back and it really helped. (BYW, still bummed about missing the p* up, get better before then!!)

THanks lilliput
I have been on co-codamol but am wary of taking them like sweeties!
I'm bummed you are not coming! I was esp keen to meet you because I just did the same course as you (shh, shh am keeping it quiet!) and had such a brilliant time!
Another time. xx

Ouch, poor you - just watned to add that a soft neck brace, that you just wear at night, is'nt too awful. My sister used one once for a night or two, after a neck injury. And it can really help, might mean your neck is better faster. Might be worth asking the pharmacist if they have any??

I have a shaped pillow that helps with my neck pain (ikea do them, the best is tempur though which is v expensive).

Syndol is over the counter painkiller that contains muscle relaxant - it helps my neck as it relaxs the muscles that are affected.

Hot shower directed at pain area helps me sometimes.

(I had torticullus (sp?) as a child and my neck has been dodgy ever since).

Can't you go to the Physio? I have had exactly the same thing...with pain radiating down my arm. Have just come back from the physio who cracked my spine back into alignment....feels so much better already.

otherwise a hot bath, lie flat and take nurofen....
