I'm a first time mum and DS is 14 weeks old and for the past couple of nights has been waking quite a lot in the night, yesterday he was pretty niggly all day and then tonight he has just woken up about 4am and is coughing and very snuffly so i presume he has his first little cold. What can I do to help him and is there anything he can take, how long do they usually last in a baby?

DS got his first cold at 2 weeks!

I could only use something called "Snufflebabe" at the time but I think at 3 months you can use more.

Hopefully someone else will know or ask at a pharmacy.

He is also being a bit sick but the sick looks like it is mostly stringy muscus - is this normal for a baby with a cold?

Hi Kitty, I recommend the following for colds:
Calpol (paracetamol - can be given from 2 months)
Medised (paracetamol plus an antihistamine which clears blocked noses - can be given from 3 months BUT OBVIOUSLY DON'T GIVE AS WELL AS CALPOL!)
Tixylix baby syrup for coughs (from 3 months)
Olbas for children - decongestant vapour oil (from 3 months).
You can also get plug in vaporisors (Karvol and Calpol do them) but I haven't got one in the house at the mo so can't check the age limit on them.
