Thursdays night at 8pm (so 42 hours ish ago ) I started having terribly yellow liquid diarrhoea. It hasn't stopped since.

No vomiting, just horrendous diarrhoea every 30 mins that TMI but stinks to high heaven. Can this be a bug so bad? I haven't eaten since Thursday dinner but somehow still passing so much.

I’m not sure noro would usually present like this.

First step I’d take is to do a PCR. I know it’s not on our government’s list of symptoms to COVID test for but they’re hard of thinking and ignoring the fact that a significant number of people start with gastric symptoms before a cough or fever appear.

I did have diarrhoea similar to what you describe many years ago. After a week I finally sought medical attention and they tested a stool sample and it showed I had cryptosporidium. After ten days of stomach symptoms it got better without treatment but it took a good month to get back to normal after ten days of not eating much and dehydration.

Goes without saying that you must keep your liquids up!

I have done a lateral flow as part of our routine twice weekly routine this morning and it was negative. I did read somewhere about covid gastrointestinal issues but I am not convinced its that. There's no other symptoms at all.
I am wondering though if its one of the "harder bugs ". When you tested positive how long did it take to get over the initial "cannot leave the bathroom stage?" I am trying to drink as much water as I can, just had a couple of plain bread sticks and can already feel stomach moving again.

Friend recently had this and it turned out to be campylobacter (sorry not sure that’s how you spell it) took antibiotics and a couple of weeks to go back to normal

I have recently just had norovirus myself (last week). My symptoms were different to yours in that I was absolutely fine and then all of a sudden through the night I was up every hour being sick. Around 8 hours later the diarrhoea started. The sickness lasted about 12 hours but diarrhoea went on for about 3 days. I also had very achy legs, could not walk far at all. I'm still exhausted from it all now and this all started last weekend, the worse of it was over after 24 hours though, even though I'm still not feeling 100%.
I really feel for you it's horrific :(

If you have diarrhoea for longer than 24 hrs, you need to contact a doctor, as it puts you at risk of dehydration.

Thanks for the replies . The last thing i ate was a mcdonalds as an end of year treat but the rest of the family are ok. I did have the wrap though whilst others had burgers. Could it be that? I don't feel washed out like you normally would with a bug its just this constant upset tummy. I am really trying to ride it out
1 because I don't want to infect an entire waiting room
2 I don't think I could make the place for longer than half hour with needing the loo
3 I don't want any additional germs like covid if I can help it x

Found a big bottle of lucazade original in the fridge. Is that safe?

@Kentishbear I had this with campylobacter, started with bright yellow diarrhoea then bloody diarrhoea and horrendous cramps. If it's any consolation you don't usually get sickness with campylobacter. Lucozade is fine maybe try small sips at first?

Kentishbear · 24/07/2021 15:42

It sounds very similar. I started Thursday night and the cramps yesterday really strong. The cramps have settled (touch wood) but the diarrhoea is still bad and also horrendous wind. I also have noticed a lot of mucus.
I think I best ring the GP Monday and get a stoll sample sent off. I think there is a link between that and lettuce isn't there too x

@traveltheworld1986 I have exactly the same right now.

Suddenly yesterday afternoon out of nowhere I came over very nauseous and vomited, initially I thought it was acid reflux as I'm pregnant.

Up all night being sick every hour, almost on the hour. Couldn't keep anything down not even water. Eventually just bringing up bile.

I'm now onto the diahorrea, and ditto the painful legs!

Ghastly bug it really is. I feel so incredibly unwell.

OP I hope you feel better soon x
