Any one had or have a stomach ulcer

I have been diagnosed with a serious bacterial stomach ulcer
I’m on meds

How long until I feel better?
What were your symptoms
And….

Did you go in to work or were you signed off and if so - for how long?

@Marmitemarinaded I have no personal experience but didn’t want to ignore your post. If it’s a bacterial ulcer is it caused by H Pylori? If so most people are cured after a course of 2 different antibiotics. I sometimes think I might have it as I have occasional bouts of nausea stomach upset and feeling generally unwell, which then resolve. What are your symptoms?

Standard treatment is two antibiotics (to get rid of the Helicobacter pylori) and a proton pump inhibitor (to reduce stomach acid secretion) for 7 days. The PPI should make you feel better within a few days and the antibiotics should prevent further ulcers.

Not sure it would require time off work unless you're vomiting.

If one of your antibiotics is metronidazole, remember that you absolutely mustn't consume alcohol in any form (metronidazole blocks a step in alcohol metabolism and causes build-up of a toxic intermediate).
