1 year old with chesty cough - docs or not?

Ds is 15 months and has had a chesty cough for 2 weeks now, it's not getting any better and seems worse today. Otherwise though he's fine. Should I take him to the gp? Not sure if I'm just being neurotic as he was prem and had a lot of chest/breathing trouble in SCBU... have since panicked at every little snore!

Getting him checked by the GP won't do anyone any harm, and will put your mind at rest. In my experience GPs never mind seeing little ones. And don't worry about being neurotic. My ds is 3.8 now, and has only been to the GPs four times, but three of those visits have been for chesty coughs that wouldn't seem to shift - I'm sure it must be a very common dilemma for parents. Hope he feels better soon.

Yes do go to the GP. My DS was the same on Friday (same age too) and he did have an infection, even though he was still quite perky. He went downhill Friday night though so I was very glad he was already on the ABs.

I went to the GP after having a chesty cough for 2 weeks and I'm 32. I got some ABs which shifted it as I'd developed a chest infection. Good diea to get it checked out.

Thanks everyone, will definitely go tomorrow. You've made me feel less neurotic!

I would take him.

I always think it's good just to have them checked over (ears, chest, throat). Even if they're absolutely fine, so what? Am sure the Dr doesn't mind, you get peace of mind and can continue dishing out huge volumes of Calpol

I think with your LO's history it would be wise also. Hope he's better soon

Took him this morning and the doctor said he has a slight infection and has given us antibiotics, very glad I took him now! Thanks everyone for your advice
