Hi
Just felt like sharing this with someone as I am feeling quite down about it.
I started ttc at the end of August this year
anyway I have had no AF in all of that time and November is here now and still no sign of it.
As you can imagine I had done loads of HPT only for them to always be a BFN.
I visited my doctor and explained my situation and I have had some blood tests done to check my hormones FSH, LH, Thyroid etc.
I got my results yesterday and was told about the underactive thyroid, turns out that my FSH level is also high which obviously is going to have a impact on my ability to concieve.
My doctor thinks that my FSH level is raised due to the underactive thyroid.
I have been prescribed Thyroxine tablets and I am to have another blood test done in a few weeks to check my FSH levels and thyroid again.
I know it sounds silly but the one thing that is bothering me the most is I cannot see me having anymore children now as I am now 37 and therfore don't believe I have much time on my side as My mom and sisters started menopause quite early between 38 and 40.
My doctor doesn,t seem to think that the high FSH is a indicator of menopause but is more likely due to the thyroid.
I don,t know what I hope to achieve by posting on here I suppose I am just looking for a bit of support maybe somebody out there has a similar story to tell.

Hi Zez

Don't know much about this, but didn't want you to go unanswered! I have a friend who has been diagnosed with this, and she's now got it completely under control with drugs - no more unexplained tiredness/being cold etc. She's already completed her family tho, so I don't know how it would affect ttc - good luck for that

Have you tried reflexology? I have known it to help with many conditions, one being hypothyroidism. It can't claim to cure it, but can help.

Zez I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid about 7 years ago. Once you are on the tablets - which as far as I know have absolutely no side effects - you are just like normal.
There are much worse things and once you get used to the diagnosis it shouldn't make any difference to your life. You just pop a tablet in your mouth each morning and that's it!

I know it is a bit of a worry but you will get used to it and I hope it won't seem so bad.

hiya, once your thyroid is under control with the right meds im sure you will soon conceive, good luck. have a look on dr mary shannons web site re thyroid disorders, there is lots of info on there (sorry can't do links but you should find it)

My sister is due to give birth any day now -she is on a high dose of thyroxine due to an underactive thyroid - she is 44. She too had difficulties conceiving (this is her 3rd child) and she puts this down to the underactive thyroid which was undiagnosed until investigations of FSH, etc. Good luck.
