Is my c section scar healing? *wound picture*

I had a c section 5 weeks ago. This end of my scar has never healed as nicely as the rest, but I’m not sure if it will get better with time or if I need to see the GP to get it looked at. It doesn’t hurt or smell. It’s not oozing or bleeding. I feel well in myself. Don’t want to waste the NHS’s time so thought I’d get some opinions here first! Thanks.

It’s probably a good idea to send a photo in to the gp (think most gps are doing this since Covid and in this situation photo triage is ideal!) as none of us on here can tell you without doubt that it’s ok or not. Sorry not to give you a definitive answer!

The scar is as it ought to look at this stage.

I suspect they closed the wound with dissolvable sutures under the skin. There will have been a knot tied and buried under the skin at one end. This knot takes longer to dissolve than the rest of the suture material and sometimes reacts with the skin. You've just ended up with a small area of granulation tissue at that end. It will settle.

@JohnHunter perfect, thanks so much 😊

Student midwife here, it looks absolutely fine to me.

MyNameForToday1980 · 05/07/2021 23:25

That's as mine looked at 5 weeks and mine healed nicely with no infections.

You're right about the things to look out for: pus, smell, heat, swelling.

Bonnieweejeaniemccall · 05/07/2021 23:31

Mine did that too. It ended up healing fine just a little slower than the rest of the scar and was slightly more painful on that size for a wee while. I did put a bit of savlon on it at one point but mostly just kept it clean and dryed it with a hair dryer. Now it's fully healed the scar tissue is a bit thicker.

Exactly this. My C section scar looked like this and it was the knot that took longer to dissolve than the stitches and left a slightly redder patch.

That's looking so good for 5 weeks!

Mine looked like that too and the end bit took a little longer to heal. I'm a year PP on Saturday and my scar is pretty much invisible now so looks like yours will be too! 😀

OP I am 4 and a half weeks post section and my wound looks almost identical. This thread is very reassuring - I had been a bit worried too!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/07/2021 22:31

Mine looked like this for a while till a tiny piece of clear plastic-looking suture worked its way out then it healed nicely!

Floopyandtired · 06/07/2021 22:42

@pookypup congratulations! Wishing you a speedy recovery 😊
