For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Manchita,

Try incorporating some fruit into your regular breakfast, oats are good for energy too.

Mybe get a tonic to give you a bit of a boost, maybe elderberry or blackthorn extract? there will be someone more qulified to proffer advice shortly.

womblingalong · 24/11/2007 10:07

Moony,

What about cooking one or all in advance, and warm up later, or maybe cook one as a pot roast for the kids?

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:10

Manchita, echoing what Wombling says...
Plus pomegranites are great for immune system.(juice is gorgeous)

Also elderberries - there is a tincture you can take available for most health stores.

Eat dishes with garlic, onions, chillies, ginger in to help combat recurrant colds and coughs. And make sure you drink plenty of water and get rest (hollow laughter).

Also, at the risk of sounding like your nan, wear a scarf! Keeping the back of the neck and your chest (fnnar) warm is a great help.

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:11

oh and Thyme is a natural antiseptic. If you feel 'throaty' add boiling water to fresh (or even dried) thyme and leave to seep. Strain and add homey. It tastes quite vile but in a medicinal way and is effective.

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:11

honey not homey

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:13

oh and some people swear that really good, dark chocolate is great for cough. Ahem, ahem.

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:18

I'll just sit here talking to myself and dispensing home-spun herbal lore, shall I?

JustPossum · 24/11/2007 10:25

100x, can I have your email addy?

manchita · 24/11/2007 10:33

Hello, I had to go and clean up a wee on the floor(not me, my son). Any way, I am back.
Yes, Vixen (or filthy, which do you prefer?) I am new here! I have only skimmed the thread but you all seem jolly civilised..can I join?
Thank you for all your advice, I really need to get on top of things. Have felt tired for ages and ages...

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 10:56

You can call me filthy (??) or just plain old fmv

I also get called moony or fmf as I have regular another nickname. It will all become as clear as mud to you I'm sure.

I'm dipping in and out today as i have a Big Tidy going on, which is pointless as I am having so many people over tomoroow. sigh.
How many children do you have and what ages?

BBBee! I didn;t have coffee! I had hot chocolate and then I had a carrot, apple and ginger juice on the way home.

Hope you are proud

I felt the meet up was way too short in terms of speaking to people properly and also having DCs there makes it harder, but it was probably about right in terms of a first meet up. I would have been too scared to come if it had been for longer I think. I expect teh evening people felt it was better.

I would like to do it again though

DS is making me icecream, chocolate cake and pizza, with sprinkles on.

Franny and 100 please could you draw the line again?

It is interesting when we have discussions about different parenting approaches but I personally do feel uncomfortable if it gets a bit too intense surrounding one person's particular choices.

However I would not want to censor discussion completely because it makes me think about choices I make, which for me is a good thing.

lionheart · 24/11/2007 13:45

I read that as typo porn.

Your new keyboard is also making me misread your posts.

FrayedKnot · 24/11/2007 13:52

Sorry, hello Manchita!

I find echinacea really helpful for warding off colds.

Anything with berries in also always makes me feel I am boosting my immune system. I buy a hot berry punch (no alcohol!) from our local Health Food shop which is like mulled berry juices, which you drink warm, and add a dash of echinacea, if I'm feeling a bit coldy.

I only started on 10/10 about 3 mopnths ago and I feel tremendously better. It's very well worth it.

BBBee · 24/11/2007 14:35

re 100 and franny thing - it really wasn't that serious was it? is it? have I missed out on some crucial element?

I come from a very arguy family though so maybe I am cluelessly tolerant.

Now fuck the lot of you!

BBBee · 24/11/2007 14:36

(that 'fuck you' was not to manchita - she is new - but the rest of you I meant it with good humoured knobs on.)

MrsCarrot · 24/11/2007 14:42

dd's drama show was great, until they decided to do an interactive second half where we had to join in.

I was not in the mood for lying on the floor doing the bicycle in the air.

Then the zip broke on my boot and the yellow popper came off my new bag. Great.

I have had sushi, salad and mixed berry smoothie for lunch, it was delicious. I also bought some trout for dinner, we will have it with bacon and capers and asparagus from miles away kent and knobbly potatoes.

It's cold. I want a fire.

MrsCarrot · 24/11/2007 14:44

Yeah, Bbbee,

Who are you looking at?

MrsCarrot · 24/11/2007 14:55

Lo keeps letting go of his pushalong trolley and griining at me as if to say, look, no hands. It's so funny.

lionheart · 24/11/2007 15:12

MrsC, I thought you were a laydee.

MrsCarrot · 24/11/2007 16:33

Nah

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 16:43

I want to bake festive things but it is too early. And by th time is its not too early, I will too busy/knackered. Humph. Can one freeze biscuit dough? What about gingerbread dough?

MrsCarrot · 24/11/2007 16:51

I don't know. You are supposed to bake tomorrow though, it's stir-up Sunday. Get out the sixpences.

filthymindedvixen · 24/11/2007 16:52
