just thought id moan.
ive seen the gp and got the antibots, which are, hopefully, just about controlling it. so no advice needed as such.

i actually pissed several blood clots earlier, while waiting for the antibots to kick in. unimaginable pain - i swear; drugless childbirth was a walk in the park compared to the pain ive been in today!

sympathy please

(am nappiesgalore bte, with muppetweek name, which i quite like)

omg about pissing blood clots

I am sending you some warm cranberry juice in a hot flask and wrapping you up in a virtual blanket RIGHT NOW!

hope you get better soon

Blandmum · 22/11/2007 20:43

Sit in a hot bath, drink masses and pee in the water....I know that sound gross, but it really helps the pain.

horrible for you

scampadoodle · 22/11/2007 20:48

Oh god, you have my sympathy. Cystitis is a witchy-bitchy-bastard from hell.

& I agree with martianbishop - just flush it all out.

mazmack · 22/11/2007 20:51

bicarb in water/cymalon REALLY helps with the burning...

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 22/11/2007 21:04

Oh I do like your muppet name.

Wallow in my sympathy and then go and wallow in MBs hot bath. I really hope it goes off overnight. xx

LoveAngelGabriel · 22/11/2007 21:11

Oh I feel your pain, I really do. I used to suffer from repeated bouts of cystitis ( probably about once a month for about 5 years...) which mysteriously cleared up after having my son nearly 3 years ago. It was hellish. Some things that may help prevent it:

drinking shed loads of water on a daily basis
steering clear of alcohol (white wine and champagne were triggers for me) and fizzy drinks
Wearing 100% cotton underwear and staying away from tight jeans and nylon tights
Steering clear of bubble bath and only using warm water to wash your bits with
Emptying your bladder fully before and after getting jiggy

If you're getting clots, anti-biotics plus loads of water is the only way forward, unfortunately. Painkillers and a hot water bottle and lots of sleep, too.

Worth getting checked out at an STI clinic, too, just to be on the safe side.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 22/11/2007 21:13

I used to get frequent bouts of cystitis too - mine was caused by a boyfriend with enormous knob. I just got in the habit of drinking Cystopurin at breakfast instead of tea.

HeyThereBert · 22/11/2007 23:58

hah! some love!

marvellous. just what i needed. i knew it was a good idea to log in one last time before bed [saddo]

thank you all so much for the sympathy and staving off tips... but avoiding alcohol? what, all the time?? good grief woman, i have 3 small children!

i am feeling much better atm... but am wary as it actuallycame on last night and i thought id flushed it out then... but woke up in a world of pain so... i have the right antibiotics now so fingers crossed.

dp is out tonight[sob] on a rare night out, bless him, so he doesnt even know. still at least i can have a snoreless bedroom and peaceful nights sleep (rofl, ill prob end up with all 3 dc in bed with me by morning... not that i mind. god i love em when theyre asleep )

Sleep well. UTI's are sheer hell!

Gingerbear · 23/11/2007 00:03

I am on anti-b's for this atm too. No blood clots though.
Couldn't take over the counter Pot Cit etc as breastfeeding.
Have drunk a barrel of cranberry juice - did bugger all.

Good to nip it in the bud before infection spreads to your kidneys. (I had this as a teen - dreadful)

LordVenger · 23/11/2007 00:04

Do you know what the MAGIC WEAPON of cystitis is? Potassium Citrate. It's £1.67 a bottle from chemists and it ALMOST LITERALLY pisses all over Cymalon/Oasis/Cystopurin etc. It taste VILE but it gets you out of serious trouble. I am a martyr to the Real Big C - I think I have an Achilles Ureathra - and since I found out about Potassium Citrate, I literally don't leave the house without it.

HeyThereBert · 23/11/2007 00:12

lord, cymalon is potassium citrate. i have some here. not that i found it working for me...

my secret weapon is ; nitrofurantoin. memorable, huh? is the only antibiotic that works on my lame and delicate urinary tract.

i used to get it a lot too. is because of the history i think it flares up quite so quickly and viciously. my mum says i should get them to check me out in case theres a low lying chronic nephritis thing going on. ho hum.

Before cranberry was widely available the advice was the drink lemon barley water. I think it changes the acidity of your urine. Makes a change from water which is a bit dull after the first few pints.

It is also best to avoid tea and coffee too.

I had it in my kidneys on holiday in France. It was hideous. Had plain old cystitis many times after that for a few years. Not nice. You have my sympathy.

LordVenger · 23/11/2007 00:22

The stuff you get in bottles is INCREDIBLY concenrated, though. Instead of all that "five sachets in the course", you just neck quarter of a bottle and take two nurofen plus when you get the first "twinge" and more than nine times out of ten it goes.

HeyThereBert · 23/11/2007 00:32

i like your style Lord.

doc told me to take 1, 4 times daily. was there at midday and he said, make sure you take all 4 today...
went outside and necked all 4 right away. thought about more, but managed not to.

then came home and started pissing blood clots. it finally kicked in about an hour (or two?) later... sweet blessed relief.

man i hope its gone. i should go and get some sleep really...

OP posts:
HeyThereBert · 23/11/2007 00:34

i didnt know about lemon barley neicie.

i wont touch anything but water or pure unsweetened cranberry juice when ive got it. might as well drink battery acid [ouch]

Niecie · 23/11/2007 00:40

I was wondering why it helped so I did a bit of digging and found this Does Lemon Barley Water Help?

The question is about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Hope you feel better in the morning.

HeyThereBert · 23/11/2007 00:42

thanks.

off to bed.

night all

ooo, i'm with you on this one bloody miserable... and if pissing clots too, its the pits.

potassium citrate is fabby... i also have a tube of stuff called "effercitrate" smae kind of thing, much better than cymalon, think its just more concentrated.... and trimpethroprin only thing that does it for me.

loads and loads of water...

you know all this, i know, but thought i'd irritate you ramble a bit!

waiting for DH to call me from inside some crappy rail depot near manchester. he's in the fuelling pump room, and cant use phone incase it sparks... he's on call in this weather!!! its horrible out there. would be called out too.. hes really not well.

sorry thought i might take your mind of your pee !

HeyThereBert · 23/11/2007 10:20

thank you susie.
