He only has a few spots, and doesn't seem uncomfortable, not 100% that it is Chicken Pox, but hasn't an appitite (usually he eats everything in site) is this normal?

yes . Spots come out in batches and nto all children are "ill" once they do.

Elphaba · 22/11/2007 18:19

Mine were never ill with it. All of them were absolutely fine - just covered in pox!

MerlinsBeard · 22/11/2007 18:20

mine weren't ill with it either just spotty, and more clingy

NorthernLurker · 22/11/2007 18:21

where are the spots - I think starting on the trunk is pretty typical. Do you know anyone with chicken pox right now?
Mine were both absolutely fine with it, a friend's little boy had some spots in his mouth though which were pretty sore - you might want to get some ice lollies in just in case.

Jodiew79 · 22/11/2007 18:22

He has them on his face and one on his hand.. I don't know anyone with CP now, although we did fly back from Spain last week.. Lots of children on flight.

how old is ds and what do the spots look like? Are there none at all on his tummy?

Jodiew79 · 22/11/2007 18:30

He's 14 months and none on his tummy as yet. Has had all other symptoms over last 10 days, hacking cough, runny tummy, cold, etc, spots did start behind his ears....

are the spots a fine rash and has he had the mmr or other vaccination? (Don't panic )

scoggins · 22/11/2007 18:36

Do the spots look like little blisters with a red circle round them?

Jodiew79 · 22/11/2007 18:38

The spots a red raised lumps and he hasn't had his mmr yet..

Right - the spots sound chicken pox like to me but the starting behind ears and other symptoms sound slightly more measles like - this is not much help is it? TBH as long as he is ok in himself - no temp? I wouldn't worry to much at present but maybe get a medical opinion tomorrow? Obviously if anything changes and seems worse then take him somewhere tonight. Where in the country are you - Leeds and London are measles hot spots I think.

Jodiew79 · 22/11/2007 18:45

I hiope it's not measlES ! I'm 9 weeks pregnant!!! I don't think it is, it's not 'rashy' enough to be.. I'm in Staffs.. Thanks for your help xx

Jodie - you were probably vaccinated/had it as a child so I wouldn't worry even if it was that - which it most likely isn't! The thing about the spots starting behind the ears just rang a bell with me 'cos I had been reading up about measles symptoms - we have had some cases round here and dd3 is too young for the mmr! So I thought i'd better mention it Hope he feels better soon.

Byeeeee
