Spot under mole worried about melanoma

I am so worried I am not sleeping, please can anyone help.

I have had a mole just under my cheek for years. I am slightly prone to acne and a few months ago I had what I thought was a spot appear under the mole. It did not however go down like a regular spot does and had remained as a raised bump.

I have an appointment with the GP but the earliest they can see me is in 10 days and I have worried myself that it is a nodular melanoma. It does not help that I have been feeling generally unwell and have now convinced myself that I have late stage cancer. Has anyone had anything similar who can provide any reassurance? I am not sure how I will get through the next week.

Last summer, I developed a hard lump under a facial mole, sort of where the cheek meets the ear - started the size of a lentil, within a few weeks, size of a small pea. That's when I contacted the GP, as I got a bit bothered by it at that point. He prodded it, looked at it, and said it was inflammation. I didn't even know moles could get inflamed. But within a couple more months it had flattened back down, and has been flat and normal even since. I had thought it was a spot too, as I've never stopped getting them since teen-hood, but it didn't behave exactly like a spot.

I also suddenly developed pink raised swelling around another mole near my hip bone in January; a different GP would have seen that one, as it I was undressed for a pelvic exam, but she didn't say anything and I didn't mention it either. That just settled and smoothed out again too eventually, pinkness went.

I don't know if this is of comfort! I had never previously had moles do things which go away again, but now I know they can.

I’ve seen some scary moles in my time (friends, family) fitting every category of ‘you should get that checked’ and despite that, not a single one has been found to be melanoma
Try not to worry too much! Even the worst case scenario thankfully is very treatable

I have just been diagnosed with melanoma and I've had it for almost two years minimum. Despite that, it's stage 1a and treatable with surgery. Yours is still very likely not to be of concern but you are doing the right thing getting it checked. Have you told the GP you're worried about cancer? Seems a long time to wait.
