Never even heard of them until I started on MN. Googled them so know what they are and don't feel quite so ignorant.
So what's the deal?
Are they any good?
Are they commonly used and if if I decided to try one where's the best place to buy?

They are great, they take a bit of getting used to but they have changed my menstrual experience totally. Do a search on here and you will come up with a million posts that will keep you reading for hours

Sheherazadethegoat · 21/11/2007 21:35

you shove them up and empty it once or twice a day.
they are great
i use one as do my 2 sisters, you can get them in boots apparently or online.

Moomin · 21/11/2007 21:40

Do a search on mumsnet, there are lots of threads about them, answering questions, giving opinions, etc. General consensus is if you try one you'll never go back!

nannyL · 21/11/2007 21:41

they are amazing

probably the best

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:42

yes go on, get one

bodykind usually have the best deals

donnie · 21/11/2007 21:42

I keep reading on MN about how great they are but I just can't see it and I can't bring myself to try them!

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:43

oh go onnnnnnnnnn

go on

don't be a coward

kerala · 21/11/2007 21:43

Try it and you'll never look back. Just so...neat in every sense of the word.

Moomin · 21/11/2007 21:43

F&Z -need to ask you mooncup question. Don't want to hijack this thread so will start new one

kindersurprise · 21/11/2007 21:47

Do it, you won't regret it.

I was so when I read about them for the first time, on MN, where else? But I was so intrigued that I bought one.

Much much much better than tampons/pads.

And I go past the women's health aisle in the supermarket with a smug smile on my face.

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:49

ok will try to help moomin (am so not an expert but happy to try)

wads · 21/11/2007 21:49

brilliant - get one! Buy online I think it's mooncup.co.uk or something similiar

smartiejake · 21/11/2007 21:51

can you swim with them in?

OP posts:
cktwo · 21/11/2007 21:54

Yup, think so.
After having to use pads since DD2 I bought one last month and I'm actually looking forward to my next period.
I have been Mooncup converted by the people of Mumsnet.

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:54

yes jake
bodykind, not a great offer atm but not expensive

smartiejake · 21/11/2007 22:04

What about over night? Can you wear them in be without needing to empty them?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 22:05

yes, unless you have an extremely heavy flow

but they hold more blood than the largest size of tampon

kindersurprise · 21/11/2007 22:05

I really think that MN should get some revenue from Mooncup. A percentage of each converted MNetter.

smartiejake · 21/11/2007 22:06

Ok ( deep breath) I'll give it a go!

OP posts:
ScarletA · 21/11/2007 22:08

Have had my mooncup for a couple of years now and have 'converted' lots of mates and my sister.

Pros

  • no bleached cotton shoved up yr floo or noxious fibres left behind
  • no hideous dragging on the last day(s) of yr period when you think the rest of yr innards will follow the tampon
  • initial outlay redeemed in 6 months
  • no environmental impact

Cons

  • need to be made of sterner stuff the average (not just tidy pools of blood but strings of tissue etc - i AM a doctor's daughter)
  • can slip out of position on heaviest days
  • not fun to change in public toilets (but as you only need to change then once or twice a day not usually a problem - apart from camping trips...)

Sure there will be other pros and cons but I def recommend it

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 22:09

Jake wooohoooo

let us know how you get on

Jenkeywoo · 21/11/2007 22:10
