How often is it reasonable to call the hospital for an update

My DH has been in hospital for 5 weeks, he had major surgery last week and came out of intensive care over the weekend.

Yesterday he had a big set back and can’t really text or answer his phone at the moment. I’m worried sick but don’t want to be constantly calling the hospital as I know the staff have much more important things to do than constantly answer the phone to worried relatives.

I called at about 4.30 this morning and he was stable I desperately want to call again but am trying to wait.

How often do you think is reasonable to call?

Once a shift would be absolutely fine with me(as a nurse). I find late morning (11-12) and early afternoon (2.30-3.30) tend to be the ‘quietest’ times. Hope he’s better soon x

I would try to wait until about 11 when drs rounds should be done so they will hopefully have more information to pass on

Hope things improve soon

Thanks both 11am it is, just need to distract myself until then.

I honestly can’t even begin to imagine what patients, families and NHS staff have been through during Covid, this is tough enough.
