really bloody scream and shout and end up crumbling in the corner a complete gibbering wreck dd2 (21 months) fell off the sofa on friday and hit her head and ever since then she has done nothing but cry, and scream, day and night. I haven't had more than 2 hours of sleep per night ever since. I took her to the doctors on monday and they said that she hasn't had any trauma from the fall apart from maybe a headache, and that she has got a bug, having a temp of 40.1. It took me 20 minutes just to get a third of a sample bottle of urine from her nappy. They said if she is no better by the end of the week to take her back, but what do they mean by no better? she seems to have got over the fever, but shes still not eating, and all shes doing is sodding crying, following me around everywhere. clinging to be and to put it bluntly, i've f*cking had enough of it. I'm sat here sobbing cos I can't get her to shut up unless shes sat on my knee. I know it sounds so selfish of me, but I really don't know what to do with her. Shes stood here next to me now with her head wedged between my leg and the arm of the chair. if i dare move more than an inch away from her she will follow me sobbing uncontrollably. DS2 isn't very well either, but I feel like I am neglecting him a bit because I am trying to shut dd2 up so he can rest. I need to go and do tea. The others won't want pasta or beans on toast AGAIN, and they all need bathing because I didn't get chance to do it last night. bad bad bad mummy i am

Angel - I agree, if she has been crying since the fall, she may well have really bruised her head/be having neck/head pains. Alos, lack of fever is no indicator. DS has just managed 5 weeks of doulbe middle ear infection and chest infection, with one mildly warm evening.. no temp the rest of the time...

Ring the doctor and cry. they need to be looking after all of you right now. (IMVHO)

Will you let us know how you get on whatever?

pukkapatch · 21/11/2007 17:09

yes, that was a proper exam.
no, they dont routinely x ray anyone. unless there are indications to do so, the negative impact far outways the positives. so for example, even though her ovaries will be covered, the x rays can and will affect her . so unless there is a medical reaons to x ray, they wont.
all scalp wounds bleed horribly. the same cut on a knee andyouwont even notice it. but the scalp has a lot of blood, so any cut there will feel as if they are bleeding to death. ( i have two boys, and regularly visit a7e to have them glued back together )
however, there is obvioulsy something wrong. and she needs to be looked at again. however, YOU need a break from all this as well. do you have any family around at all youcan call on for help?
if not, then turn the telly on. park the kidsi n front of it. make sure no sharp objects around. shut the door, and go sit somewhere, take some deep breaths, and give yourself time out. right now, she is definitly picking up on your anxiety as well.

she can be clingy but she has never been this bad before. DH can't get home any earlier as he is biking home and it will take him ages. she had a fever on monday but thats gone now.

Two possible practical points:

  1. has dh left? Could he take a taxi/get a lift instead?

  2. how about a takeaway? Who fancies pizza in front of the TV? Maybe a favourite DVD as well?

AnAngelWithin · 21/11/2007 17:18

dh probably leaving around 5.30 but ive tried to ring and phone is off so guessing flat battery. no money for takeaway otherwise i would def ring them up now!!

AAW, if you weren't knackered (and I truly sympathise there) and worn down from her crying in your lughole, what would you think?

Does she seem in pain? Can you ask her if it hurts anywhere? Is she able to tell you if you point to bits of her? Can you settle her on your lap for a bit, give her whatever it takes to calm her down, then start a systematic does it hurt here exploration of her from head to toe?

Could she have a broken collarbone, for example?

gizmo · 21/11/2007 17:20

Buggeration

AnAngelWithin · 21/11/2007 17:22

she just seems to hurt on her head. when i touch it she says ow and cries. shes just fallen asleep on the floor

You need to get her checked out again, or at least ring NHS direct (to A&E)

pukkapatch · 21/11/2007 20:23

aaw, how is she? have you taken her to see a doctor?

i kow you have been giving her capol. have youtried nurofen?

pooka · 21/11/2007 20:29

AAW, I really hope you managed to get her seen/she's feeling better.
If I were you, I would try and get her seen again asap, if only so that you can reassure yourself.

denbury · 21/11/2007 20:39

sounds like you are havng abit of a s**t time at the moment!! sometimes you wonder why you bother!!! i would take her back to the doctors and tell them how she is or contact your health visitor. there is only so much you can cope with and you have other children to look after to. you are not a bad mummy to ask for help.in my books it makes you a brillant one to be able to ask for help.good luck and hopefully you will be able to get some sleep

AnAngelWithin · 22/11/2007 09:31

morning all. thanks for all your help and concerns.

dramatic improvement in dd2 this morning! i put her in bed last night after another dose of calpol, and had to get her up at 8 this morning, she was still tucked up in her cot how i left her so she must have really had a damn good sleep!! she is eating a little bit and chattering a bit. i even managed to go to the toilet without her following me and screaming!!! might even try and wash my hair in a bit! lol

its ds2 who is ill with sore throat and a temperature now!!

shrinkingsagpuss · 22/11/2007 09:42

its amazing how much more sane you feel after a good nights sleep - both of you!!! She was probably despearetly tired and sad and anxious - ditto for you... hope today is better.

denbury · 22/11/2007 21:28
