Sudden horrible pain right side of stomach, hurts to touch could it be trapped wind??

This started completely out of the blue yesterday. I felt fine then sudenly got a very sharp horrible pain at the right side of my stomach - it even hurts to the touch.

The pain moved around for the rest of the day and I put it down to trapped wind so took Rennie and Dulcolax.

I am worried as I´ve still got it today and I have been to the toilet - its localised again on the right side.

I live in Spain and don´t really want to go to the Docs if I can help it, not comfortable with going here....but I am getting worried as there´s no improvement.

Can anyone advise...?

you should really go to the doctors to rule out appendicitis

claricebeansmum · 21/11/2007 08:50

I went around with trapped wind for 3 days. It was really painful and I thought that I needed to do a really big fart ...so I went to the GP as I had been drinking Gaviscon like coffee and he called an ambulance to take me to hospital for appendectomy.

Appendicitis pain does move around - ususally starts in the middle.

I think you should see a doctor.

bebespain · 21/11/2007 08:54

Oh God clarice did it start suddenly too?

That´s what I was dreading somebody would say

I know I should go to the Docs - feel like a big kid

It did come on quite quickly but it definitely felt like trapped wind. I remember walking up the stairs at work - doubled over - thinking if only this would shift but hoping I didn't do an almighty fart in the office!

lemonaid · 21/11/2007 09:08

You do need to go, really. Just take a deep breath (unless that hurts too) and do it.

Piffle · 21/11/2007 09:17

second what Clarice said
Exactly the same here
Was 20 weeks pregnant, assumed it was trpaped wind, ended up with emergency butchery surgery, luckily ds2 was fime
Do go, they need to chekc everything - womens bits, rectal/anal blackages and scan for appendicitis. if they can rule out the first two, they usually do an appendectomy anyway as they have to go in surgically to rule it out in most cases

Hopefully this is not you...

mazmack · 21/11/2007 10:24

you DO not want to leave it as a burst appendix is extremely painful and can be life-threatening!

arfishy · 21/11/2007 10:38

I did the same thing, pain in side for a couple of days but didn't want to make a fuss until eventually I got a bit 'wanting to lie down and sleep' at the side of the road.

I was packed off to the doctor and immediately sent to A&E. They operated within an hour and told me my appendix had burst. I was told I was very lucky that they already had me on the table. Got very nasty blood poisoning and had to stay in for a few weeks and take about a zillion antibiotics a day for ages to sort it all out.

Go to A&E, if it is your appendix you have to be looked at.

belgo · 26/11/2007 08:19

how are you now bebespain?

luciemule · 26/11/2007 08:44

If the pain is slightly higher on the right side near the bottom or middle of your rib cage, it could be gall stones too.

I thought I had trapped wind and then it got much worse and I started having regular bouts of it whenever I ate any saturated fats. In the end I had the gall bladder removed.

Miaou · 26/11/2007 09:08

Sounds exactly like the start of my appendicitis. Just seen the date of your post so not relevant now - but I hope you went to the gp!

shrinkingsagpuss · 26/11/2007 09:15

Bebespain - did you get it sorted out?
I echo everyone else here - mine started like trapped wind, but after 6 hours, and being unable to lift DS, I took myself to hospital as I was 11 weeks pg -and had my appendix out the next day....

bebespain · 27/11/2007 18:00

Wasn't appendicitis (relief beyond belief!)Thanks for asking Belgo and shrinking.
Plucked up the courage to go to the Docs although I did feel much better by then he seems to think its something gynaecological and has referred me to a specialist.

Thanks again all!

Glad to hear it wasn't your appendix - hope its nothing serious - good to get it checked out. xx

citylover · 30/11/2007 21:09

Was it mid cycle - could be ovulation pain - that has me bent double sometimes and is a sharp stabbing pain plus more generalised abdominal pain.
