I'm a bit phobic about being poked about, following some traumatic internal exams during labour 9 months ago. Reassurance appreciated - no horror stories please!

I'm totally phobic about that part of my body. Had a fs when I was about 10 or 11 weeks pg with ds2, who is 3.5 now, and a colonoscopy earlier this year. I had to be sedated for both otherwise I wouldn't have gone through with it. It wasn't the most pleasant thing I've had to do (the fs), but I found the colonoscopy worse. The staff were all v nice and reassuring, and I got trhough it easier than I expected to.

I had one when I was a teenager, I eventually got a diagnosis of IBS but had a sigmoidoscopy to rule out other things. it wasn't exactly pleasant, but didn't hurt. i just had to pull up my knees when they put it in and had a look round. felt a bit farty but everyone (the nurse, doctor and even my mum - cos i was 16) was v discreet & sympathetic. a colleague had one last year because of a family history and i reassured her, and she said it was fine afterwards.

Oh lou and bundle, I'm so glad I asked - feeling a bit better now. Havent opted for sedation but will hopefully be OK ....

a few years ago - no problems just uncomfortable with the air that is pushed into your insides (don't know if this will happen to you though)Good luck.
