Does anyone have chickenpox. My DS is 3.9yrs and this is day 2. Seems to be coping well so far, how long does it take for all the spots to come out?

All 4 dc now had chickenpox. Boys were much worse than the girls. Spots keep coming out for approx 6/7 days but take weeks to finally clear, sometimes into months for the really big ones!

My ds is 10 yrs old and started with spots on Saturday. More coming out daily. Been told spots come out for upto 5 days and that they are no longer infectious 5 days after the rash starts. When should I start checking ds 22 months?

mummyandbaby · 19/11/2007 21:10

Was told by doctor today that they are infectious until last spot crusts over approx 7 days after rash starts. How is your DS? My DS has been really poorly with temperature, cough and cold aswell as spots. Spots not bothering him too much. What are you using in the bath?

My 9 month old had chicken pox a couple of months back and still has marks where his spots were but once they start crusting over they soon start to clear up. I found a table spoon of bicarbonate of soda in the bath really helped dry out the spots and then some calomine lotion when he got out. The worse ones for him were round his mouth and in his nappy creases but he was well in himself for most of the time.
HTH!

My ds is really itchy. Not been ill beforehand so the spots were a real shock. Doctor said he had impetigo at first so gave medicine for that. The day after he had more spots and was off his food. I went back to the doctors and then he said chickenpox! He's still not eating properly and struggling sleeping. Doctor prescribed Phenergan for at night but it doesn't seem to work.

We are using Hydromol in the bath as he has eczema anyway!

try Calamine with Aqueous cream ( keep in fridge) really good on spots as helps moisturise the skin as well . Can buy over the counter.
Or - could try Eurax cream sparingly.

For over 1's, you can also get Piriton which is an anti-histamine and will help sort out the itching and will also help them sleep.

Incubation period for chicken pox is 10-21 days. DD2 started coming out in spots 16 days after dd1's first spot appeared! So start checking any other children from day 10 onwards!!

Sorry to hear your DS is suffering. My DS is very slightly better today and the spots do not seem to be bothering him. However, he has a terrible cough and temperature. Aqueous calamine cream is excellent. Some of the many spots started to blister yesterday but none have crusted over yet. How long between the spots blistering and crusting over?

3-5 days ish between blisters and crusts! All of a sudden you'll look and wonder when it happened!
katiepea, ds came out with chicken pox 3 weeks after dd.
All mine were really poorly with chicken pox and spots plagued them really awful. I know others who aren't affected at all and just get on with life as usual! oh i wish!!

Ds2 started with spots tonight 13 days after ds1. No real symptoms as such, more grizzly than normal and quite pale. At least we have got them over and done with!
