MIL trying to kill me

Serving brie 2 months past it's sell by date. When I questioned the strange brown oozing and rather strong smell she said it was supposed to be like that!

She commented that it was odd that it should go off so quickly.

I've eaten her chicken though so if you don't here from me for a while...

but you didn't go near the brie did you? [hopeful]

twentypence · 18/11/2007 07:41

Gave it back to her - she's putting it on the compost heap.

cheese on the compost?

She'll not mind the rats then?

Haribosmum · 18/11/2007 08:16

Celery · 18/11/2007 08:17

* the exemplary breakfast-time thread *

whomovedmychocolate · 18/11/2007 08:29

LOL - brie is essentially mouldy anyway though.

I eat mouldy stilton, it's yummy!

twentypence · 18/11/2007 08:39

This was oozing - not mouldy. I will pass on your regards to the rats.

in my defence it's supper time here.

Obviously I'll try to wangle you an invite too mrsJC, she may have even older stuff in the fridge somewhere for really special visitors.

Hey I'm in NZ as well! Where abouts? I'm in Auckland on the North Shore!

lemonaid · 18/11/2007 19:42

I eat Brie past its best-before date (IME the best before date is just when it's getting to the right stage and I seem to remember Delia agreeing) -- but two months over ....!

twentypence · 18/11/2007 23:03

I would go a week - maybe 2 weeks over (only if it looked okay and I wasn't pg) for myself - but to have brie in your fridge for over 3 months without eating it...is she real.

Haribosmum, both twentypence and I are in Christchurch

In fact, I believe her MIL lives pretty close to me. I think I'll invite myself over for a slap up meal

twentypence · 19/11/2007 02:33

Ploughmans?
