For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think watching the Box of Delights in the dark with the Christmas tree lights on was very lovely.

And my mum's mince pies.

And the same decorations going on the Christmas tree (like my star I made when I was 4, which still goes on my mum and dad's tree).

And the ritual of polishing the angel chimes on Christmas Eve.

And advent calandars.

And the excitement of stockings (old ones belonging to my granny) which bulged so beautifully. They were still magical even when I knew where Father Christmas hid the presents .

I don't tknow though - there is some extra special magic part that I need to work out. But those parts were very lovely.

Oh yes, singing Christmas Carols. But there is more.

Right I am really going to be purposeful now, or DH will think he has married a person who makes messes and doesn't cook vegatbles and doesn't wrap up birthday presents, despite her malingering status as a depressive person .

JustPossum · 21/11/2007 20:55

Boco, you weren't being rude. In a nutshell, i can summarise (after many years of being taken apart and put back together by a splendid head doctor) that my mother is a narcissist and in her universe no one should ever receive attention except for her. Full stop.
I want DS to know that he is entitled to as much lime light and celebration as he can handle. that it won't dint my ego, on the contrary to see him happy will bring me immense joy.

I am eating another rock-hard melon. Sigh. I can't eat citrus because of DS's skin and all other fruit offerings at this time of year are mainly unseasonal and therefore unripe. Bah humbug.

MrsCarrot · 21/11/2007 20:58

Magical Christmas?

Advent calenders

Everyone hleping with the cake, putting snowmen and reindeer on etc

A show - puppet or pantomine

mince pies

paper chains

carols

collecting the tree together, maybe in the dark, definitely decorating it together.

Turning the lights on - needs its own line

leaving snack/carrot by the fire

bustley rustley stockings

unbearable wait to 'see' presents under the tree

delicious food

the snowman

laughs

games

satiation

That about sums it up for me.

JustPossum · 21/11/2007 20:59

Thank you Idris, that is a good start to my List. Now go and wave a colander about and huff and puff and saute onions so it smells like all is deliciously on schedule.

MrsCarrot · 21/11/2007 21:00

Lol, Idris - we have been watching that today, DD loves it. It is very Christmassy too.

LOL Boco.

I do agree about birthdays though.

I think DS last one (third) was worth doing. We had it at home and the children mostly played in the garden. It was pretty low key but all teh children seemed to enjoy it.

And Franny is coming to do his next one

lullabyloo · 21/11/2007 21:02

a 10/10 recipe thread would be lovely...I always forget to write things down & then have to scour all the threads for cake & lentil loaves.

Possum...when ds was one it was such an emotional day for me that I really wished I hadn't invited family & friends for cake & champagne...ds managed to fall ill with scarlett fever & a temp of 107 & I was a sobbing ,rocking wreck
Birthdays 2 & 3 were much nicer...special breakfast, present opening, outing & picnic lunch with just the three of us
However....ds has recently been to a few parties & is planning his 4th birthday with military precision.....although at the moment it involves lots of pink, bouncy castles, dancing, bubbles & balloons

lullabyloo · 21/11/2007 21:04

ahhhhhhhh & franny has promised to come & organise it all

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:07

Oh please start a thread and link on here

I think we had one in the dim and distant past - Avi? but start a shiny new one

TooT sorry I was fishing badly there, wasn't I . People often say I have a nice smile, which in my head I hear translated as "plain girl, never mind, she tries hard though"

Lully how was it?

Possum I like you being different. I am sorry for the times it is awkward for you. Christmas magic is knowing that there will always be a satsuma, some chocolate money, and a 5 pound note in the toe of your stocking. Waking up feeling it all knobbly and crinkly on your foot - OH!

poor ds, we put his stocking on the landing. I don't want him to wake up at 4 am like I always did.

Boco · 21/11/2007 21:08

Goodness Possum, how hard. You'll find your own rhythm and it will just come to you, you'll invent your own family rituals. It really doesn't matter quite yet, you'll get all your cues from him as he gets older and you'll see what makes him excited and you'll just know what to do.

Lully are you ok? HOw are you feeling - did you have an appointment today? (if i'm being nosy again say shup boco)

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:08

LOL at organising Lully's party

I am doing another one this weekend, I am a busy girl at the moment. You know I just turn up with a tambourine and a parachute though, it is all very low key. You want someone dressed as a ballet princess who will ride round the room on a horse or something. That would be good.

lullabyloo · 21/11/2007 21:10

lovely beautiful franny.......stockings on landings is just plain mean

oooooooh I loved my stocking...so much more than my presents...big mistake to put a recorder in it one year though...at around 3am didn't go down awfully well

You've written his name again franny

fullmoonfiend · 21/11/2007 21:14

possum As mrsc says, you can make your own traditions and learn from your child. ds1's 1st birthday was a nightmare. I was bullied into a joint party with a mum I had only known for 4 months. She took over everything and I mean everything. I was not even allowed to send out my own invitations. She then went around afterwards telling people that I had not bothered to help her in any way and she had been forced to do it all....

It took me along ime to get over that!

I try extra hard with xmas as it is ds1's birthday on 23rd. And my father was a cunt difficult man who ruined more christmasses than i care to remember.

This year we are having a family do at my sister's house. And it will be fun (though my family are difficult en masse). But really, I like it best when it is just we four

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:14

ah shite

MrsCarrot · 21/11/2007 21:15

Has she done it before?

zippitippitoes · 21/11/2007 21:15

I've never not had a stocking from father christmas..i don't thibnk he'll be coming to mre this year tho

MrsCarrot · 21/11/2007 21:16

actually, twas Boco that said that, FMV, I just listed all my christmas traditions.

FrannyandZooey · 21/11/2007 21:16

I am paranoid

if I was looking for me on here I would come on and search for "ds name"

or "place Franny lives"

I try to avoid posting either

Boco · 21/11/2007 21:17

FMF it's dd2s birthday on the 23rd Dec too. It's a funny day isn't it.

Boco · 21/11/2007 21:18

Are you wanted by any international agencies franny?
