ok it may be hilarious to the DC, but i can't turn my head to the right... and it hurts to even hold my head up now!

It was caused by having DD (23mo) sleeping on my right arm / shoulder all night on Tues - yes i know she has asthma and it was easier to have her beside me than go in to her every five minutes when she was coughing.

anyone got any wise words / old wives tales / experience of how to fix this (or even just to ease the stiffness for a bit) ? ? ? ? Pleeeeaaase!

I used to get this quite a lot .
It is miserable you have my sympathy.

Take brufen to reduce the inflammation.

Deep heat gel or spray helps.

Hot bath if you can to lie and let the heat soothe the pain .

I use a tempur pillow now, ridiculously £££ but the reason I was getting sore necks was crap pillows.Haven't had one for yrs.

would pay £££ to fix this right now

Get yourself to a Chiropractor! The muscle only 'twangs' because you've been making allowances for your spine being out of alignment. If you have private medical insurance you can get your GP to refer you and it will be covered.

Cold can help

soak tea towell in cold tap water (so not freezing) wring and lay on floor on the teatowel for 10 mins or so

The cold makes more blood rush to the area

Happens to regular and is EVIL

Bag of frozen peas wrapped in dry tea towel would be better!

Tempur pillow. definitely changed my life.

I find heat works better than cold for me. You can try both.
Patches are great (hot or cold) as minority rule explained makes the blood rush to area and accelerate healing process.

If you know a chinese practioner then go for an accupressure point massage. Best way to release the knot.

You have all my sympathy. Have this all the time.
You can also lenghten and rrelease neck tension by lying flat on you back on the floor with a golf ball under your neck. Roll gently in all directions to massage and lie still with ball under your skull for a few minutes.
