Google says it indicates kidney or liver disease and I can't find anything which suggests it could be vit deficiency.

I've attached a pic. Last night I noticed that all my nails were quite pale and one specifically half very pale/half brown. They don't look as bad today, but the one in the pic is the same.

I have a few auto immune conditions. Has anyone had this and it's not been linked to anything serious?

Thanks.

Your nail on that toe is very long, it could be lifting the nail and causing the discolouration.

DinosaurDiana · 13/05/2021 13:24

This can also happen if you’ve banged your toe. Because toe nails grow so slowly, you’ve forgotten that you banged your toe when the bruised/ dark area grows out.

Ahh I never thought of that, thank you! You know what it's like, getting around to cutting them!

That looks like my "runners toenail", I agree they need cutting.

MrsFin · 13/05/2021 16:43

I agree too. Cut your nails woman!
They'll be getting bruised and damaged, and that's what's causing the discolouration.

I recently lost a big toe nail for a similar reason - had to have it removed. My big toe nails slant towards, and if they get too long they rub against the top of my shoe.

Yes MrsFin! Haha

Very white nails is a sign of liver disease

Blinkingbotheration · 13/05/2021 20:24

Hi @nolovelost - I have similar and yes they change depending on the light and how warm I am and how far stretched out my fingers are! I do have a health condition but not liver or kidneys or life threatening and I don’t think it has any relationship to my nails. I also had a panic when I noticed mine and have subsequently been quietly checking out other peoples’ when I get the chance....have identified at least 5 friends with the same (& no health conditions!). Anyway, hope that calms you a bit👍!

Blinkingbotheration · 13/05/2021 20:25

Oh and it was a bruise on one of mine that led me to notice it too😆

nolovelost · 13/05/2021 21:40

Ahhh ok. Funny you should say that, as I secretly do that too! I feel much better about it now, thank you.

Thank you for everyone's comments.
