I’m 40, 2 children, don’t want any more. Haven’t had sex since birth of youngest due to a condition which makes it very painful.

Am in the mini pill which I love because I don’t have any periods. But I’m worried about taking it unnecessarily - it’s not like I’m at risk of getting pregnant...

Plus the last few weeks I’ve suffered with constant bloating and I feel really uncomfortable so im reluctantly thinking of taking a break. It would be interesting g to see if it would stop the bloating and also to see what my cycle is like nowadays.

What would you do?

Well I wouldn't dismiss the bloating. Keep an eye and a time limit on how long you’ll put up with that. It's one of the symptoms of that sneaky bastard ovarian cancer.
While I'm being the over vigilant voice, you can get pregnant without full PIV if you're very fertile or unlucky.

Yes it had crossed my mind about the dreaded oc but I had so many tests last year to determine the cause of my not being able to have sex that I’d like to think the risk would be low but I’m certainly going to keep an eye on it.

With regards to getting pregnant by other accidental means there is no chance of that at the moment I’m sad to say!

I now just take it so that I don’t have to suffer periods but that feels a bit of a crap reason.

I came off the pill before ttc dc1 and never bothered to go back on.

We don't have a massive amount of piv and use condoms when we do.

I was shit at remembering to take it so over the 15 years of no hormonal contraception I've probably not been at that much extra risk of unwanted conception.

Taking the pop to avoid periods is absolutely fine.
Don't ignore the bloating.
