What pain medication for period cramps

When I was younger I had monthly cramps. Since my late 20s, the monthly cramping increased. There were times when I was so sore. The cramps made my lower tummy sore.

I am in my 30s now. Every month is different. Now I also have ovulation cramping and generally about 2 times a month for several days with cramping.

I find the only thing that helps me are ibuprofen suppositories. The medicine I have is marketed as a childrens medicine. One suppository is 150mg. I usually take 2. I find it really does help to ease tummy cramps related to periods and ovulation. Without the suppositories I could suffer for days and be unwell.

I read that taking too much ibuprofen can be too damaging and I should be looking into a different pain medication. Is this true? I follow the medicines guidelines at the back of the box. I track my monthly cycle and I know where I am in my cycle most of the time. When I feel tummy cramps I can either ignore them and might as well consider moving into the bathroom for a few days when isn't ideal or take two suppositories and it really does help me.

What other medication is available for pains and cramping aside from ibuprofen?

Have you tried paracetamol? My GP also recommended Buscopan to manage the pain

The only thing I ever found to help when cocodomal and ibuprofen didn't work, was doctor prescribed tranexamic acid

I've suffered terribly from period cramps ( I can compare it to being in labour) when I was younger and the best and fastest acting pill was naproxen for me. Half an hour after taking it all the pain was gone (for a while at least) Have you had any investigation?

Buscopan. It is an anti spasmodic. You can buy it over the counter, cheapest is Home Bargains.
I now just take it and wear Hotteez patches but at the height of miserable period pain I've had to change shifts so I could take strong cocodamol, a stat dose of 400mg ibuprofen and buscopan..
