Gastrointestinal endoscopy & Colonoscopy - have it now or wait? I have questions...

I have been referred for a upper gastrointestinal endoscopy & colonoscopy due to anaemia

According to the booking appt person the laxatives and sedation are incompatible with breastfeeding which I'm not intending to give up anytime soon

I don't know whether to go ahead and book it or leave it til after Xmas when taking a few days off bf may be easier

How awful is it?

Is it worth going private for?

Thanks I have asked whether I can leave it a while or if it needs doing asap

DH reckoned I wouldn't be able to look after the kids while taking the laxatives so I'd definitely need 2 days off bf

When I had the last one, I just started drinking the laxative stuff when I got home from work (about 4pm) and all done (groan at memory) by about 7 or 8pm.

Had procedure early (8am ish) next am, was eating by noon.

So, 4 hours on loo followed by x hours after sedation when you won't be able to bf.

Just coming back on to moan - so I asked the Haematology person whether this was urgent or not and he told me I needed to ask the gastro team this

Try not to worry so much. I think if it was urgent you would have been given an appointment straight away. I was given mine within a week.

Why not give your GP a ring, just to put your mind at ease and ask any questions that are worrying you

I didn't have any laxatives when I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy (for acid reflux). They just gave me an enema which apparently has the same result and is only a very short term uncomfortable.
