What state are your teeth in?

I've just had to have a back molar removed (combination of gum disease and an abcess ) and I'm gutted tbh. I've always looked after my teeth, clean them properly, don't eat sweets or fizzy drinks, floss regularly - yet I've just had my second abcess in three months and need a root filling on one of my teeth. I've got two other fillings too. Dh says it's typical for someone of my age (36) - but is it really? At this rate my mouth will be a helluva sight by the time I'm 50

Mine are pretty okay. I am 34. I have no fillings or any treatment. They do bleed though - or rather my gums do. Have done ever since I was pregnant some 6 years ago. No amount of brushing or dental cleaning has stopped that. My teeth aren't white, but they seem quite strong.

Im 25 and i have had one tooth out, i need another out but i have chickened out on going to the dentist , i have had a few fillings etc. I don't eat sweets or dring fizzy drinks. Bad teeth seem's to run in my family

I don't think its got anything to do with your age tbh. I'm ready to be corrected though, if necessary. I am ashamed to say, I didn't go to the dentist for over 10 years and I was in and out in 5 minutes, with no work at all. I also only have 4 filling. I'm 39 btw. DH, on the other hand, who is the same age, has a mouth full of fillings and he's the same age.

LilRedWG · 12/11/2007 15:20

Our dentist says a lot of it is in your genes. I have wonder teeth, not a filling amoungst them, which depresses DH who's teeth are full of holes and silver.

MaureenMLove · 12/11/2007 15:20

Did I mention he's the same age as me! Twit!

numptysmummy · 12/11/2007 15:21

I'm the same as you Miaou and i have had 4 removed . Oldest dd,10, has to have four molars removed and i'm mortified. Convinced it's hereditary - her teeth are lovely and clean, see's the dentist regularly etc.Myb dad also has shite teeth. Dh barely brushes his, never sees the dentist and has perfect teeth

fortyplus · 12/11/2007 15:22

46 - had to have a root canal filling 14 years ago, but the tooth broke so I had to have a crown. 3 other fillings besides that, though my gums are receding a little so might be heading for more soon.

You'd hate dh - he's 47 and has only just had his first filling!

Miaou · 12/11/2007 15:31

Hmm maybe you're right. My dad has shite teeth. It just bugs me since I've always been paranoid about looking after them!

dd had 4 molars removed when she was 10 numpty. Dentist said it was due to me having a cold or infection possibly when I was pg with her! Aparently, the molars are already formed in the gums before they are born. I felt dreadful too, but she delighted in telling everyone it was my fault!

stleger · 12/11/2007 15:34

I have 3 crowns and multiple fillings. Dh has 2 tiny wee fillings. My kids are at the dentist every 6 months for checkups as I am paranoid about teeth.

numptysmummy · 12/11/2007 15:43

Well at least i couldn't help it then. Been gutted since they said she'd have to have them out. Was going to change my name to Waynetta Slob and give the baby juice in a bottle anyway.

PrunersOfEight · 12/11/2007 15:56

My teeth are not in good shape, really. I need a fair bit of work done, but just can't afford it. We don't have dental insurance and the cost is going to be too high, so I have no choice but to leave things until I get an abcess or one breaks off.

SuzieSweep · 12/11/2007 15:57

I really look after my teeth, visit dentist every 6 months, brush teeth twice a day, floss regularly and use corsodyl mouthwash and I have a mouth full of fillings and crowns - its quite depressing. I too had molars removed due to absecces.

I don't eat sweets either!

I think its luck of the draw with teeth . my sil has perfect white teeth and no fillings - nothing, and she is always eating sweets, cakes etc.
