Bleeding after sex on Depo

Hi everyone,

I got my first and only depo injection in January and I've only just realised that everytime my husband and I have sex I spot right after and then have a proper period. We were joking that we always manage to sneak a little time in before I come on again and I thought I was just bleeding irregularly but I've just put 2 and 2 together that its actually the sex thats been causing it for the last 6 weeks at least. I'll spot right after, the next morning and then have a proper period for a week. It happened again yesterday after only coming off 8 days ago.

Has anyone had this?I have an appointment early next week to have an examination and smear. I know I'm STI free and had a clear smear a year ago. My gut tells me its related to the depo which has now run out but I don't want to take any chances.

Any experiences would be great.

Hi did you ever find out what this was? I’m also on the depo but going through the same thing so now I’ve had to have biopsy’s sent off.

Hi probably very late with this reply but I was on Depo when I was younger and I bled nearly every time I had sex. Absolute nightmare contraception. I came off it and was fine.

@Nikki360 that’s really helpful to know! Did you have any other symptoms? I currently have leg back pain and abdominal/pelvic cramps and am awaiting biopsy so absolutely terrified but only recently thought that these symptoms started 3 days after my last shot x

It was a long long time ago I was on it but I vaguely remember pains at the top of my legs and feeling absolutely crap. I stopped it and after a while I was back to normal. The Depo is pretty horrendous try not to worry. Xx
