Does it really take 8 weeks for a factured foot to mend?

I fell over last Monday night and thought I'd just sprained my ankle - I went down to A & E today and they said I'd fractured it and it would take eight weeks to sort it out.
They've not given me a cast as although painful I could walk on my foot - just a tube bandage and 2 crutches.
Will it really take that long?

I'd just got a Davina excercise tape to start my new lose weight regime but the inability to put any weight on my foor stops that. What sort of excercise could I do?

I flake-fractured my 5th meta-tarsal about 4 months ago and it's still bloody painful if touched, sod all they can do to help it heal, so 8 weeks sounds OK to me! I should think the healing time would vary a great deal depending on which bone and what type of fracture though.

Really, please keep off it as much as possible and give it the best chance you can to heal.

You could maybe swim but depends on what you've done to your foot really. Could you do some toning exercises?

Hope it heals OK.

Unbeknown to me this is the second fracture. The xray showed that I had broken a bit before just under this fracture. I regularly twist my ankles and fall over so I obvously just carried on walking when I shouldn't have.

The hosital said rest but also said it's up to me whether I go to work which has left me a bit bemused. How do I rest if I have to struglle on a train and bus to get to work??? Did you go to work?
